As a small thank-you, I thought I'd summarize my experience: Nominal cost right now, download easy. A total of  1 hour from start to instruments installed in ST 3.

The instruments, as imported, are all thin and lifeless. They compare poorly to the Miroslav instruments included in ST3. I found no key-switched instruments so everything "is one at a time". All instruments are "dry", which probably explains the flat sound somewhat. Trying to replicate the EQ and other settings from ST 3 improved things a bit. I'll fiddle a bit longer, but I'm probably going to just accept that the Miroslav isn't nearly as playable as the ST3 variants (to me at least).

Wow that's awfull. They sound thin? I'm fortunate mine sound like they always have. Has IK done anything to fix it? That's totally unacceptable.

I guess I never heard the original Miroslav, so I have no real comparison, only the "reprogrammed Miroslav optimized for ST 3" included in ST3. In view of the comments over at IK multimedia I thought my experience was "as expected", as IK makes it clear that it's a legacy instrument and essentially unsupported.

Something interesting: After installing Windows updates yesterday I rebooted, and the MP instruments are now much better "as is". They are far richer than "thin and lifeless" and it's now clear that they are related to the ST 3 variants. A wild guess would be that the import process somehow left my Sampletank in a funny state and that a reboot cleared that.

Did you load the latest SampleTank update? I haven't really used mine much of late due to new album / charity commitments etc, but when I've had a minute, I've tried to keep my systems up to date ( a task in itself sometimes with all the continual updates etc!)
I know one of the SampleTank updates didn't go too well for me, strange issue like you describe (but cannot remember which one) A subsequent update sorted things out. Just a thought.

Nigel - I did not. I'm on ST 3.5 but in view of the complaints I read here, e.g. cclarry, who tried 3.6 and lost settings, I have not upgraded. ST 3.6 appears primarily focused on pushing their new custom shop.

I'm going to make my own instruments with FX and engine settings matching what's in ST 3 for similar instruments and see how that comes out. My concern about Miroslav was that it was going to take a lot of experimentation based on being unsupported, and so I'll have to figure out pretty quickly if it's worth it, or if I should switch to a more modern set of samples. I'm looking at EWQL HO and possibly some Kontakt package should NI decide to page all their new symphonic stuff in a package at a reasonable price. I'm still writing, so I don't need to make final decision for a few months.

I have no concern about the $35 I paid for MP, only the time it will take to get it working well.

Cool, hope you get it sorted or a decision made to move on.
I now use mainly EWQL Strings - think my Package is now called Platinum - certainly covers everything I need - then I have some strings that came in NI Komplete - they fill the gap I cant fill with the EWQL stuff.
Komplete might well be worth considering and of course with EWQL you can do the subscription thing for about $25 a month I think, which gives you access to all their libraries.
Cheers

All but the Platinum stuff Nigel (I hear that may change, but at a higher price).
