  • Changing automation on all tracks

I have finished a project. I am using volume envelope on some tracks in track view.

What I'm trying to achieve is pulling down all the tracks faders a couple db globally.

But the tracks with volume envelopes bump back up where they were. Some tracks don't have envelopes which obviously have no issues.

How can I globally bring down all faders along with those with volume envelope automation!??
Other wise it's very tedious going through every track with automation and bringing down the full tracks automation line to match.

Thanks!

Offset mode or lower the (offset) fader on the bus the tracks route to.

Kevin is right on with offset mode.
However I avoid that like the plague. You can also use CNTRL+A to select all tracks / Then Hold CNTRL While Dragging 1 line down and all will move.

I like to open the track real wide to get a zoomed in view for detailed movements.

Not sure I understand what you mean by offset. But I mostly use aux tracks instead of buses these days, but only to blend another effect.
Chuckebaby does that then only turn down the tracks with volume automation? I guess I could put volume envelopes on everything. Then do as you say then it will pull down all the above? Guess that seems easy enough. Appreciate the input!

Welcome to the forum Steve.
Yes, if you select all tracks, if you change the volume of one track then all will change (with or without automation).
There is a module in the Control Bar called the Mix Module. Within that is a button to enable/disable 'envelope mode' by which it sets all the vol/pan/gain controls to 0. Then you can adjust all volumes smoothly & evenly.
It is not good to change volume of master bus. Always adjust volumes of tracks to get total output at the proper level.
Have fun

Exactly what I needed to know and how. Thanks I appreciate it a lot!

Yep, Offset Mode is your friend here.

  1. Engage Offset Mode
  2. Ctrl + a to select all tracks
  3. Select one and whilst holding ctrl, adjust the fader
  4. DISENGAGE OFFSET MODE!!!

Hi. I agree with Offset mode as the way to go.
Advice nr. 4 from Bristol_Jonesey is essential to remember afterwards, however.
All the best.

Something has obviously changed your mind

How do you guys use offset mode?

Never.

Too damned confusing. I'm not at all averse to editing my own envelopes - and it's easy enough to select the whole env. & drag it up/down as needed.

I agree with your comment 3 years ago. It easy enough to select all tracks and drag one automation line down.
If there is one feature in Sonar that has the potential to ruin hours of work, its offset mode.
If you leave it on and forget about, its over.

Yeah, I certainly did have a change of mind, once i learnt how to use it properly.

I use it quite often these days as i'm revisiting several old projects which, with the benefit of hindsight, were all mixed a little hot.

This is the easiest way by far to bring all tracks including automation down by a set amount
