This is what happens when a clique starts treating the Coffee House as its own private forum.
 
With, might I add, the complete approval - and indeed participation - of forum hosts.
 
Criticism and disagreement of this culture is hastily met with a healthy dose of opprobrium and denunciation as the hive mind reacts to protect its own....

It definitely feels like the Coffee House is a strange clique now, although some "serious" threads are apparently allowed to pass through unscathed. I'm not comfortable posting a "serious" thread, since I have no way of knowing if it would pass whatever test is in place before it was morphed into a joke.
 
Weird, though. I liked it better the way it was before.

The general "unwritten rule" seems to be that the CH is a place to hang out , and generally posts are often open for silliness in this laid back atmosphere/environment. From what I've seen, many do come here just to get a laugh, or a getaway from the more serious sides of life, or even just to be child like and participate in the silliness (I'm guilty of the latter).
 
Given the nature of this "unwritten rule", I was informed that if someone did want a serious topic to be discussed, it was recommended to state in the OP "serious discussion only" (or something similar) to avoid it turning into a thread of jokes.
 
Even if this clique is odd, strange, cuckoo or whatever the current label is, it is what makes up this being a community and for the most part........the spirit of the clique is meant with good intentions.       

As the dumbest and most reprehensible of all members of the Coffee House, I can promise you that if you start a thread and indicate that you would like a serious discussion, I will not post anything but a serious reply. Believe it or not, we have had a number of serious discussions. 
 
I'm sure that to some, the fact that some of us post silly or stupid things means that the Coffee House is only for morons. That's not the case. Some just like to fill the empty space with some fluff. If you find it funny, that's fine. If you don't, well, we don't all share the same sense of humor. I can't speak for anyone else, but I would never want for someone to feel unwelcome posting a thread because they were afraid that they wouldn't be taken seriously. I would also hate for someone to feel that I had ruined their thread with my presence (just like I'm doing in this one now). Since I can't speak for others, I'll just say that if anyone ever asks me to shut up and stay out of their threads, I will do so. I have too much respect for the folks here to do anything else. 
 
And, to the OP, birthday evidence on this forum would dispute the claim that Bapu only B 40. He Am Bapu.

He's just having a tough time adding 12 to that 40 in his Private Idaho.
