  • Should I update Sonar Platinum?

I have not updates for many months.  When I read just even the title of the threads - there is very little positive in the titles.
Is this skewed?  Are only people with problems creating threads and all the happy people are just not doing so?
Or if I have a stable version from months ago, should I just leave it alone!

Thoughts?  THANKS,  AB

Hi. I have updated every month since they started the rolling updates.
A couple of months during the 1st year gave me some issues, but no show-stoppers.
The past year or so, I haven't had any problems that weren't caused by user error.
My guess is that people without issues, forget to tell/post, except perhaps when chiming in on a thread.
They're busy using SONAR
My vote goes to: Go for it, you'll love it
All the best.

I cannot speak to newer versions, so this is more general information to mitigate impact should anything occur.

In situations where upgrades can shut you down if they go awry, it is good practice to manually create a system restore point (one should be done automatically, but safe is best) as well as a disk image (using Macrium Reflect or similar) prior to installation. For SONAR, if issues arise, the quickest recovery is the following (in order or preference):
  1. Rollback SONAR
  2. Restore the system to the given restore point
  3. Restore the disk image
1 applies only to SONAR; 2&3 apply to any system changes.

Go for it - you can always roll back.
Not updating will mean you missing out on new features that you've paid for.

I've just learned that the latest versions mess up the plug-in manager for older versions, so you might want to consider if that's going to be an issue for you beforehand.

Ok, so you're already in Platinum, and everything is "working fine" and you see nothing you really need in the updates that will improve your workflow?
Simple answer: Leave it be, and keep on working.

Because I keep my DAW offline and my time is limited when I have a chance to do some work with Sonar, I only update every few months. I just updated both Windows and Sonar last weekend and nothing really changed for me. For what I'm working on I noticed no difference in either Windows or Sonar. The biggest change that I do love is the new look to the PRV but that was a few months ago that happened. I am looking forward to giving Ripple Edit a spin.

Good question,
everybody has to ask and answer himself.
Found out that monthly updates are way to often for me.
The may (05) 17 build is running here as stable as possible.

Don´t wonna be busy with changing my system and
learning new features of sonar  monthly.

regards

That's the beauty of this system. You don't have to update if you don't want to. What ever point you want to update again each update is an accumulation of all that has gone before, so you only need to do the one update to catch up whether it's a few months or a year.

Most updates have new features but they also contain fixes and tweaks. Its a good idea to update even if it seems you don't think you need to.
