Beepster, are you talking about the "Session Percussion" AdPak?  I haven't seen any other AdPak which has anything close to what you might consider "World" drums.  And that is extremely limited.  It only includes the following:

Kick: 32x20" Kolberg Percussion Concert               Extras:
Snare: 12x6" Brazilian Caixa                                 - LP Wood Block
HiHat: 14" Sabian AAX Stage                                - LP Plastic Block
Toms:                                                                   - LP Tambourine (left-right hits)
- 11" Skin on Skin Conga                                       - Brazilian Pandeiro & Kick-Snare-Hihat
- 13" Skin on Skin Conga
- 14" LP Tito Puente Timbale                                  Optional:
- 15" LP Tito Puente Timbale                                  - Brazilian Pandeiro (can be loaded into Kick, Snare and Hihat slots)
Cymbals:

- 8" Meinl Byzance
- 14" Zildjian A New Beat
- 16" Masterwork Custom
- 18" Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash
- 22" Zildjian K Vintage

If anyone knows of another AdPak or kit which has more world percussion sounds, please let me know.

(EDIT:  I do see that they have a couple more foreign kit-pieces available separately:  Djembe, Sangban, Timbau - but that's it)

That is my one big complaint about Addictive Drums -- the lack of unique percussion sounds from around the world.  Everything seems to be based around a traditional rock-and-roll kit with a handful of very mildly exotic South American options thrown it. It is such a great interface otherwise and I love it.  But I would like more percussion options from Africa, the Middle East, India, the Far East, the Pacific, etc.

Yeah... that's the package I was referring to. I didn't bother with it because I wanted kits instead but it did seem like the most "diverse" package of the lot. Since OP seemed to want oddball sounds that (and the single kit pieces) seemed like something to point out.

Thing is... AD is really not nearly as diverse as the other drum programs out there and I doubt it ever will be due to the proprietary nature of their samples. It's not like BFD that can load third party sample packs or whatever. They've locked their shiz down and they don't really produce a lot of material.

What they do produce and supply though is pretty good and the engine is decent. I particularly like their transient shaper thingie BUT they do limit themselves in many ways. Shame really.

If I were to go out of my way to pay for a drum program I'd likely go with BFD3 (I already own Eco). As a "freebie" with Sonar though AD2 is absolutely spectacular to have.

Cheers.

Yes. I agree 100%. I emailed XLN with my comments about their lack of diverse samples and they sent me back a note which essentially said "thank you and we'll bury your comments in our archives."

No product/company can be all things to all people. I look for products that do what they do very well. I already had AD2 when I switched to SONAR, and was happy to see that it was included with SPlat. That let me pick up 3 more ADPaks, MIDIs and kit pieces. When I need/want more esoteric sounds, I usually pick up a Kontakt instrument, like Indigisounds Steel Pan library.

Some day when I have some extra money to spend, I may pick up SD or BFD.

As far as focus goes, one of the reasons I landed on SONAR (from S1) was their Windows-only development, without wasting resources on a native Mac version.

My greater complaint with XLN is the slowness of their new releases. What have we gotten in the last year? United Pop? Skipped that one. Didn't like the demos one bit. Addictive Trigger and Drum Shaper? No thanks. Products offering solutions to problems/needs I don't have. How about a new AK ADPak, for crying out loud?!?! How about AK2, for that matter.

I went ahead and got the Session Percussion ADPak.  This installed AD2 for me.  I was then able to play with Session Percussion and also listen to the previews of the other ADpaks.

It seems like Fairfax 1 gets lots of recommendations.  If I get that one as well, what would be a good third ADpak to complement Session Percussion and Fairfax 1?

I got Jazz Sticks and Jazz Brushes for some softer mellower options.  I like them.  Don't know bout the others except Fairfax and Session Percussion which you already got.

The jazz packs come with some decent (though limited) jazz grooves that work as a good starting point to get your rhythm tracks going.

The Studio Pop & Rock ADpaks are very useful to have (if you don't already have them). Those midipaks are also very useful in getting interesting variations when you play them with different ADpaks.

If you like the rock genre, Fairfax 2 is very good for that.....you can actually use it on many other genre's as well.

Please don't hold me to this, but I THINK that, when you have both Fairfax 1 and Fairfax 2, you get an additional page of presets across the 2 kits. I don't think the 2 need to be purchased as a bundle.

Maybe an extra +1 for Fairfax 2.

After holding off for a while I just got doing the Additive Drums 2 upgrade today ...
Went with the Session Percussion , Jazz Sticks and Progressive Metal  ...
So far my initial impressions are The Jazz Sticks Kit  is very happening ..I'm very happy w it .
The Session Percussion was something I felt I needed because as skimpy as the Kit is , it is still sounds pretty good .
The Metal Kit I haven't messed around with yet ..

There are a couple of things that have been rubbing me the wrong way about this upgrade ...
I dropped a lot of coin on a bunch of XLN midi packs ( around 10 or more of their midi packs )  It appears they think I'm gonna go out and buy them all over since they only show up as demo's in ADD2 ...
Please tell me it ain't so

Kenny, check your account at XLN and see if they're all registered there.
When you run the AD Installer program, all the registered Midipaks should be listed at the bottom (somewhat greyed out), but should all be there.

I will try to look at it later but there is no reason you couldn't use your older purchases. I bought some during AD1 and they are in my browser so I know it works.
