I went ahead and got the Session Percussion ADPak.  This installed AD2 for me.  I was then able to play with Session Percussion and also listen to the previews of the other ADpaks.

It seems like Fairfax 1 gets lots of recommendations.  If I get that one as well, what would be a good third ADpak to complement Session Percussion and Fairfax 1?

Black Velvet is the one you just couldn't go wrong with.

Kenny, check your account at XLN and see if they're all registered there.
When you run the AD Installer program, all the registered Midipaks should be listed at the bottom (somewhat greyed out), but should all be there.

I will try to look at it later but there is no reason you couldn't use your older purchases. I bought some during AD1 and they are in my browser so I know it works.

Aha , you guys are right . Thank You
They weren't showing up all that easy in Win 8 ...tonight I upgraded the machine w ADD2  from 8 to Win 10 ..
Because of that move I had to reauthorize and update all my info with  XLN ....now all those packs are showing up ...
even went back and took out my pucker up comment since I no longer need to go there any more

thanks ,

Glad it worked out Kenny......that's a lot of MidiPaks just waiting to be beat down down with the beat!!
Congrats on Win 10 upgrade......IIRC, all my drivers were automatically updated when I upgraded to Win 10......never looked back since then.

I ran into the same dilemma, so over the course of the year I ended up getting pretty much all of them.  :)  However, I do find that I almost always go to Fairfax 1 first, and I use that and the Indie & Black Velvet kits the most.

Hi Mesh ,

Thanks for helping me out a few posts back

WOW, I'm really loving that Jazz Kit ...It has a Mitch Mitchell type of Vibe in the way it sounds ...

Yes , i noticed all the drivers on my computer got updated after the initial Win 10 install .
I'm so happy to have told my fear of upgrading to Win 10 to go take a chomp

nice rapping with you ,

For my second pack, I chose Fairfax Vol 1.

So now I have these:

- Session Percussion
- Fairfax Vol 1

For the third, which would you recommend:

a) Fairfox Vol 2
b) Black Velvet
c) something else?

Obviously it's all highly personal, but of those I would pick Black Velvet just for sheer variety.

I currently have Fairfax 1, Black Velvet, Retroplex and Metal for that very reason - I feel like I'm covering a lot of ground between them.

I recall this thread. Can't remember what I posted earlier but the Indie kit is pretty flexible and well recorded.

It's not what I'd normally use (metal/rock/punk/weirdo proggy stuff) but it definitely sounds like a bunch of more modern commercial stuff and has a wide range (I actually think it will work nicely for some country stuff or vintage sounding 50's moldy oldies type tunes and maybe trip hop/Portishead sounds).

I mostly use the Metal and Fairfax kits for my stuff but definitely have plans for the Indie kit.

Actually I think the Fairfax 2 kit (if that's the older model drumkit) types sounds could be easily replaced by the Indie kit but not necessarily vice versa. Check the samples in the main AD2 page to see what you think but they don't tell the whole story by any means.

AFAIK the Black Velvet is pretty much the same as the one that we got with AD1 (but maybe updated?). I have both AD1 and 2 installed (and BFD Eco) so I figured I'd go with sounds that were more drastically different than what I already have.

I also have the Andy John's Session Drummer 3 kit (ultra tight/punchy blues/rock kit) and Rock legends for both Session Drummer 3 and BFD Eco (nice 70's sound rock kit... sounds good for old school punk).

Essentially my philosophy is to choose sounds I like but try not to double on similar sounds even if it means fiddling around a bit more with different samplers/versions and/or tweaking things a bit to acheive what I'd get from a SLIGHTLY better set of samples.

Cheers.

I highly recommend the Reel Machines.  Great electronic drum samples.

You said you like some jazzy stuff so consider Jazz Sticks.

I like Indie a lot, but I'd consider it more New Wave than Post Punk.

FF2 is another one I use a lot.  It's reasonably versatile, and seems a bit more restrained than FF1.
