feelyoursound.com has updated the MIDI composition software Sundog Scale Studio to version 2.1.0.
Sundog is a specialized tool that helps electronic songwriters of any genre to develop new chord progressions, melodies, and even whole songs. The stand-alone software connects to all major DAWs via MIDI and is available for Windows and Mac OS X.
The update adds many new features to work with own chord collections, different chord voicings, inversions and more.
New in 2.1:

• Invert chords up/down with up/down arrows.
• Transpose chords one octave up/down with page up/down keys (Mac: Fn + up/down).
• Move chord progression left/right (Ctrl/Cmd + L/R).
• Insert/delete chord slots in chord progression.
• Windows: High-DPI display support.
• Set the user interface size in the settings (default: automatic detection).
• Works for smaller displays as well now.
• Bug-fix: Click on Full Chords pad in old editor didn't work any more.
• Click on timeline position to trigger playback.
• Always on top option.
• Lock chord progression to prevent accidental changes (press L in chords view).
• Chord Mods: Create own voicings (open chords, inversions, add9 etc).
• Create and collect own chords per song part (and trigger them with your keyboard).
• Scroll left/right in editor with slider.
• Toggle bigger input editor (click on the arrow-icon or press T).

I was trying a bit earlier today with the demo download. There's a very helpful manual. I got as far as installing the MIDI link utility he recommends, and installing the demo.

I could make sounds in Sonar but I didn't have time to figure out how to operate it yet.

I put in a bit more look-see on it today.  First we need to download LoopBe, a MIDI utility that he recommends. Info on that is included in his manual.  So that's easy and free.  Making the thing work is tricky.  I figured out after a lot of experimenting that I need to click the checkbox at the top of the screen called Song Mode to enable whatever stuff I've put in the yellow area to play in Sonar.  You get the sound to play by clicking the Play arrow in Sundog.
 
In Sonar, in preferences set the MIDI input as LoopBe.  Then in your song, add a softsynth and set the MIDI input device as LoopBe.
 
I can play notes on my keyboard as well.  In Sundog, I set the input MIDI as my keyboard.  Essentially Sundog is in between my keyboard controller and Sonar.  So either, I can get a pattern out of Sundog, or play keyboard notes live.
 
The experience so far has been a nuisance. I can't say I'm excited about it or see practical potential at this point.  But I'm willing to take it a bit further to see what Sundog does in terms of chord offerings and note selections before I give up.

The tutorials make it look way easier than it is to actually use. Just about ready to give it up. Trying a bit more, but not user friendly.

Ok, here's what worked for me:
 
1. Install LoopBe1.
2. In Sonar, go to Edit>Preferences>MIDI>Devices and check the INPUT for "LoopBe internal MIDI"
3. Insert a VST Instrument into your project (and make sure to load a patch), then choose the "LoopBe internal MIDI" for the track input. (Make sure midi echo is active)
4. Launch the Sundog app.
5. In Sundog, go to Settings>Preferences and choose the "LoopBe internal MIDI" for the "MIDI Out Device"
 
Once you set the preferences, all you have to do is step 3&4.
 

 

That's what I've done as well. It's just using the Sundog that seems to be hard.
