I've really liked 10 so far besides some of the compatibility issues with my audio stuff because "Pro"Audio companies seem to move at the speed of snail. Everything else has been pretty brilliant apart from the obvious privacy issues... though Google and Facebook are 10x worse.

I am also a big fan of the Office setup now. The ribbon bar took some getting use to but holy hell is it fast now and very well designed. 2016 has made a lot of good changes as well and that should go public soonish.

While DAW developers are making portable apps hopefully the don't do the same gui for desktop/phones because I will revert to using older software.

A big point of Windows 10 and Visual Studio 2015 (MS developer tools released alongside) is to 'easily develop' on all platforms so expect similar GUI's in future. I haven't run windows 10 on cellphone so have no idea what it would be like.

Cheers

I fail to see how win 10 is a dumbed down win 7

You have to take some additional steps that you didn't before.  I realized there is no create shortcut to desktop. You now have to drag and drop from that big piece of real estate they call a start menu.

Right Click desktop>New>Shortcut ... same as it ever was.

I haven't even installed it yet and already Windows 10 is annoying me. This morning I got a popup window exhorting me to upgrade NOW!!! I closed it and a few minutes later it popped up again. I'm sure it's not going to be a problem killing it, but it's still an annoyance.

I'm hearing so many negatives, but so far not one compelling reason to upgrade. As a developer, I have an obligation to assure compatibility between Win10 and my own software. So I'll be upgrading a non-essential laptop for that reason alone.

At this time, I can list only two notable Windows 10 attributes: a) it boots faster and b) it's not Windows 8. Since I only reboot twice a month, it's therefore mainly about retiring 8.1.

Since the A-Pro driver was released a day ago, I figured I would give 10 another try last night. It was bad.

Although nothing got cobbled, I lost my Office 2013 apps and couldn't find them. The directory they used to be in Was Office 2013 and it was gone. Instead I found a directory called Office 2015 but they weren't there. Then I noticed a new directory called windows apps. No matter what I did, I couldn't get into that directory because I didn't have permission. The only things that had enough permission to look, were Microsoft programs.

I thought I was real clever with this attempt and took the option of a custom install to turn of all the sharing and wi-fi nonsense. Was I surprised when I found that I still had to go in and shut it all down after the install. So I slithered back to Win 7 as fast as I could. The two main reasons I tried again is that the A-Pro driver was out AND windows has been nagging me non-stop to do the update and keeps reporting failed update attempts. I've also noticed that Win 7 updates are no longer appearing, just the Win 10 notice.

I really feel manipulated, as if MS is saying "you can delay this but you can't avoid this". Does you will be assimilated ring a bell?

I had a tablet with 8.1 on it and it was OK for touchscreen but not something I want for desktop with my 3D monitor. I'm duel booting Win 7 ultimate 64 bit and XP pro and plan to keep it that way. I haven't updated for a while and not yet getting the win 10 update notice and also, plan to keep it that way. By the sound of things, there is no option to give MS a firm "no thanks, I'll stick with what I have" so it looks like I have to be very selective on the updates I install.
I may put 10 on my lappy just to try it out but I won't even be an early adopter for that. As far as DAW and gaming PC's here, I'm saying no to the free upgrade.

Jeff, after the win 10 update, is your Delta 1010 working ok? Thanks.

I didn't install it on either of my PC's which have 1010's, but I would think it will not work, as there seemed to be not much joy with Windows 8 (I skipped it, didn't like it). I had been looking around for any success stories, as I'm not quite ready to part with with my beloved 1010's (I have 5), but have not yet come across anything one way or the other, but like I said my guess would be it's a no go.

Every time it's the same with a new windows release. :) Very relaxing reading all this in my armchair on win8.1 I will upgrade and soon but only on a test partition I don't use to start off with. Slowly slowly...

And the 'cost' of the 'free' upgrade is starting, the things that are 'missing' from Windows 10, it seems you will have to pay for, just the start ?

It feels like the PC is becoming one with tablets and mobile phones etc, app store and the inevitable compromises to make the one system compatible across platforms, and it is usually the most powerful platform which compromises the most, only time will tell.
