  • Microsoft is killing me! Win 10 rant (p.3)

The "charging for features" **** is making a mountain out of a molehill. The DVD playback is nothing new. The reason is that Microsoft has to purchase a license for CSS decryption and related things for each copy of Windows it includes DVD playback support in. Since few people care about it anymore, they've discontinued including it, and now charge for an addon to cover it. You can, of course, get 3rd party playback utilities, this is only relevant to making Windows Media Player handle DVDs. This started with Windows 8, since DVDs have fallen in popularity on computers. Most people just stream video.

The solitare thing, silly but who cares? It is just a game and again, you can get 3rd party games of any kind instead.

The FUD that flies around with any new version of Windows always amazes me.

All your apps will be available via metro and MS store but of course.
BTW Solitaire, Minesweeper, etc. were not games, they were education tools so you could train yourself to use a mouse properly.. Mice are now soooo old hat now (apparently ).

I read of several people who were diagnosed with various forms of cancer the very same day they installed Windows 10. Apparently the Surgeon General was informed about it, and subsequently all future versions of Windows 10 will be released with a Health Warning.

No, it's true . . . I swear . . . I read it on the internet

No risky humour allowed!!!
We must remain bland at all times, the internet might not be able to handle it :)
I am now reporting myself for an offensive comment..

I haven't even installed it yet and already Windows 10 is annoying me. This morning I got a popup window exhorting me to upgrade NOW!!! I closed it and a few minutes later it popped up again. I'm sure it's not going to be a problem killing it, but it's still an annoyance.

I'm hearing so many negatives, but so far not one compelling reason to upgrade. As a developer, I have an obligation to assure compatibility between Win10 and my own software. So I'll be upgrading a non-essential laptop for that reason alone.

At this time, I can list only two notable Windows 10 attributes: a) it boots faster and b) it's not Windows 8. Since I only reboot twice a month, it's therefore mainly about retiring 8.1.

Things like that really enforce my analogy. Win 7 >> Win 10  =  Sonar 8.5.3 >> Sonar 2015

Sonar 8.5.3 >> Sonar 2015.  Really?  Not in my world.
