Submarines ... that's where my experience with 400hz was.  Also Beryllium and "mass unbalance modulation", IIRC.

I am an EE and work on fighter aircraft.  400Hz is the only AC they use (they use several different voltages of DC).
 
We also deal with Beryllium in some of our aircraft equipment.
