  • "Frenzy" (Modern Rock/Metal) MIX #3 On 5-19-13 (p.5)

Bob Oister
NOTE:  Remix Uploaded 5/17/13 after finally getting to get back in the studio!  Thanks to everyone for your input, advice and ideas!

For the remix I swept out a lot of mud from the rhythm guitars, went back to my original bass guitar EQ setup from my first CD, ramped up the drone guitar intro with a short fade in, took Paulo's suggestion about introducing a short feedback type blast over the intro, and cleaned up a couple of the drum fills.  I'm hoping the overall volume levels are okay, and that it translates a bit better on most systems.  Let me know what you think.

Very sorry for the late replies.  For the past two months I've been extremely busy at work, but hopefully I'll be able to get back on here more often soon!

Hey, Steve,

How’s my metal head brother from another mother?  Hope you’re doing great with your new Line 6 Valve amp, very cool piece of gear!

Thanks so much for giving a listen to this little, two hour quickie that I kind of threw together in a rare fit of rage after I had a particularly crazy and frustrating week!  LOL, I guess sometimes raw emotion can be converted into some kind of “artistic” expression!

I really appreciate you taking time to check it out, and always value your input, opinion and friendship very highly!

Best wishes
Bob

Paulo:

Hey, Paulo,

Many thanks brother, I really appreciate you giving this a listen and also your good input and ideas!

On this new remix, I used your suggestion about introducing something different into the intro, and also faded in the opening drone guitar.

Thanks again, Paulo, I always look forward to and greatly appreciate your input.  Best wishes!
Bob

Hey, Dude,

Thanks so much for coming back for seconds, man, you made my day, brother!

It's comments like yours that make the frustrating part of recording and mixing all worthwhile, and also make this such a great place!

I really appreciate your encouraging comments, input and support.

Have a rockin' weekend, buddy!

NOTE: JUST UPLOADED NEW MIX #3 - UPLOADED 5-19-13

LOL, I wasn't happy with Mix #2 after checking it on a few different systems/devices, so, I went back to the drawing board and beefed up the drums and bass, re-eqed the rhythm guitars, adjusted bus levels, and backed off the mastering limiter a wee bit.  I think it seems to translate better now, and I'm hoping the overall levels seem okay.

YIKES!!!  It always sucks trying to get your "ears" back in shape after being away from the recording/mixing process for a couple of months!

Thanks for all your input and observations!
Bob

I like the new mix, I would like to hear more definition on the bass, maybe cut a notch out of the rhythm guitars, and or maybe boost a bit of the high mids on that bass? But keep in mind? That's coming from a bass player :-) So I tend to focus on the bass? Others may hear things differently.

Hey, Robby, big thanks for coming back for seconds on this one.  I always look forward to and appreciate your input and observations.

I just posted another mix after trying out your suggestion, I think I was able to get a little more "bite" back into the bass after some more EQ surgery on both the bass and rhythm guitars, and also re-leveling all the instrumental buses.  After being away from the studio for a couple months, I'm having a little trouble with overall EQ and volume levels. Hopefully, if I can put some more time in, I'll eventually get my ears back into shape.

Thanks again, buddy, I always know I can count on you!

Have a good one!
Bob
