Danke, Tom! There's really no big secret to the drum sound.... It all starts with a really good kit, played by a really good drummer, in a nice sounding room. For the most part, I'm looking to make it sound as natural as possible, so all the mics and preamps in the world won't help me if the kit itself is crappy.... If you get the tracking part right, the mix is (ideally) all about polishing the shiny bits and fitting the kit in with the other instruments.
Of course, that all *sounds* simple enough....

If you're genuinely curious, I'd be happy to run down the tracking and mix process. But like I said, for the basic drum sound, we're not really doing anything extraordinary or unusual.
Thanks again!
