Hi,
The Tom Dowd special is very important, because it really digs into the history of music and RECORDING ... but it also shows what most people do not see and have forgotten because of the DAW's .... it takes an outside "listener" to find the moments that are special in music, and Tom caught Duane and Eric working off each other and ended up using it, and it has become one of the best rock songs ever done. And when he splits it up so you can just hear the two guitars, it is even better and you do not need a band behind it. No kidding!
Great lesson in "music", but Tom started recording things that were "live" and he would know the difference between a special moment and the rest. Most engineers and studios are not designed for that anymore, specially these days, and the DAW's are preventing people from working their notes and themselves as they should. It's become too regimented, and it is time for some more mind expanding drugs!
"It Might Get Loud" is actually very good, and it actually explains Jack White much better than we thought, and what his music is about. Jimmy is Jimmy and he looks very good, and nice for a change, instead of totally ripped up which is usually his mood and stance. The Edge is fine, but to me he is not as original as the other two, although he is probably the better "technician" and "engineer" when it comes to his rig. I reviewed it in this board a while back.
Either way, it is good and worth the see and the listen.
