It's funny how we change our perception of the value of someone's opinion based upon factors like this. Some people from the northern US still consider people with a strong southern drawl to be ignorant or less intelligent. Someone with a missing front tooth is assumed to be foolish. Go out in public with a slack jaw and they'll think they've found the missing link. Walk into that meeting still wearing your ear socks and no one will hear a single word you say.

We match patterns. We're extremely good at it. When we see a repetitive pattern, we assume it will continue to repeat and we act accordingly. When someone starts uptalking, we immediately associate it with all of the other uptalkers we've observed, and assume that this individual will exhibit all of the other traits we've observed with uptalkers in the past. When the pattern is broken, we're not sure how to interpret the data and we search to find or create a new pattern to fill the gap. (Wait, that uptalker is a genius! She must be pretending to uptalk in an attempt to dumb it down for the rest of us.)

...And yes, I share your opinion about uptalkers and people who use "like" in every phrase. Tots lame.

Now everyone of that age sounds identical to me, I can barely tell them apart.

And all their music is just loud banging and screaming and  it too all sounds alike.

Hippies!

It's a practical demonstration? that the person talking has little? or no understanding of the correct use of language? where a rising inflection infers a question?

The natural assumption is that like what they are saying is literally just as flawed? as like the way they are saying it?  If they can't like even learn to speak like their native language correctly? or understand that they're literally like using tone of voice incorrectly? then anything they say? is like literally reduced to the level of a Bapu post?

How you dress can matter.

I have a friend on Facebook, in her late 40's, who punctuates every sentence with two question marks. For example: "I've just been to the gym ?? Did 2 hours on the elliptical ?? Feeling tired ?? Can't wait for dinner ??"

Oh? Are you, like, making fun of me? I'm so sure? Like, for reals? Whatever? As if? I tots do not sound like that? I think it's, like, sad, like a clearance sale at K-Mart? I mean, are you so totally threatened that you have to, like, copy me or whatever? It's like, so totally lame, right? I mean, there are real problems in the world, like starvations and wars and software piracy and stuff and you're, like, worried about mocking me? Why don't you, like, turn on a TV and learn something? You need to accessorize and prioritize your, like, priorities and stuff?
