  • Can I split a clip by snap setting and repeat?

Hi,

I'm editing multi-track drums and I want to split a verse and a chorus into 8ths or whatever the snap setting is. At the moment I'm doing this by hand by splitting a clip group - it's tedious to say the least.
How can I split the entire group into 8ths for example and repeat the split until the end or at least the end of the selection?

Thanks,

Mike.

Here is a possible way.

1) Take a note of your current time signature
2) From measure 1, set your your time signature to 1 beat per measure and a beat value of 8
3) Select all tracks that you want to split
4) Right click on one of the selected tracks and select Split
5) Select "Split repeatedly" and entering 1 for "Starting at Measure" and "And again every"

Because the above step creates a measure for every 8th beat, you will end up with splits at every 8th beat.

Remember to restore your original time signature noted in step 1

I know this may not be the most elegant of solutions, but I believe this will do what you need. You may have to experiment with the values in step 2

Found a post by Brundlefly that works! Not difficult:
I think I got it figured:

1. Change Edit Filter to Transients.
2. Right-click the clip, and choose Pool > Add MBT to Pool.
3. Disable Audiosnap on the clip (either in the Audiosnap Palette, or in Clip Properties of the Inspector.
4. Set snap resolution to desired split resolution (Pool Markers will follow suit).
5. Right-click the clip and choose Split Clip(s) at Audiosnap Pool.
6. Select the track to select all the slip-edited clips.
7. Right-click one of them, and choose Apply Trimming.

Step 1 is only required so that you can get to the Audiosnap context menu to Add MBT to Pool. If you have another clip with AS enabled, you can use that one instead, and go straight to step 4. on the clip you're splitting

Note that once the pool lines are showing in a project, they'll stay there and will save with the project, allowing you to create a template that already has them enabled for this purpose.
