Thanks Doktor!

Maybe I'll try that, Craig.  :)

This is a great read for all of us. I have only used cdbaby in the past, but we have plenty of options.

I use distrokid.com - it's the best value I've seen for this kind of thing. For 20$ a year they get your music in iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Google Play, Rdio and loads more. It's amazing quick too, a few times after uploading a track it was live on iTunes within about 3 hours.

The 20$ is for unlimited uploads rather than per album which most places seem to do. I've been with them about a year and had no problems.

Hi,

While I am not against using any of these, they all seem to have their good and bad sides, in the end, this is just another record company trying to scam another dollar off the musicians, and I sincerely doubt that any of them are helping the artist as much as they say they are!

I can't help thinking how gullible we end up being thinking that just because there is a website out there, and they have 5 songs or artists, that they are better than you are at sharing and helping other folks appreciate your work. We're better HERE, than any Spotify out there!

it was the same as literary agents ... makes no difference if you got one ... he has to "push" to get a result. And if he doesn't push, he gets nothing for it, although some are known to "wait" for the right time ... which generally, is not an issue ... nowadays with the Internet, the "right time" is any time, not tomorrow or next week!

Just scary ... I'm not sure I want to be in the hands of a ... nobody, just because there are a few other artists there.

I just uploaded a song to Reverbnation and was given a chance to upload a song (or album, I suppose) to Spotify.  Eventually I found out it costs $8.99 for one song.  Has anyone had experience with this?  I'll be honest, I've often wished some of my songs would come up on some of those easy-listening 'stations' or whatever.  Just didn't have any idea how to make that happen.  Maybe this is it?  Does it work?

ReverbNation is a decent company, providing good services for artists who want to get their music into online stores. We've been using their services for several years, and always have been given good support when needed.

Yet, there are probably a 1000+ companies offering likewise services for similar fees. You can pick any you like - but read the fine print (it's a legal contract you engage in!).

Yes, you will pay to get your music listed with the big names (there is no such thing as a free lunch) ... and no it will not pay back unless you are lucky ...

Still, it's a good way to get good music to a broader listening base.

Don't upload what other would consider "demos". There are standards that apply to officially released music i.e. get it mastered by a professional, he'll polish your work or if it's not ready for the world - he'll tell you ;-)
