Tonight I was helping out some folks doing a PTSD show where some actors read parts from a Greek play about war. I totally was not psyched to go do this on a Sunday evening, but I soldiered through and was so glad I did. It was amazing!!

There were issues with the sound and mic batteries that died and so on, but I got through everything and most importantly, they were grateful.

And just for fun, the actors included Mary Winningham from St. Elmo's Fire fame and Anthony Edwards (Goose from Top Gun).

They and others were very kind and forgiving as I bungled around trying to help bring off the show. :-)

What a great experience Geoff. Always nice to hear about those touched by fame that show their human-side. No doubt, the easy choice would've been to opt out and in so doing you would have missed out on a memorable moment. Thanks for sharing.

I only wish I could share the tape. It's awesome! I'm up past midnight mixing it down.

Hi,

... removed. Some folks don't like to read other people's experiences!

Thank you

I apologize, but I just don't seem to be getting it......(connecting the dots apparently isn't my forte).
Maybe someone can please explain how post #4 is relevant to post #1?

Either way, congrats Geoff on that "reluctant" gig......glad to hear it turned out much better than expected.

Thanks Mesh! I think Moshkito's post was tied to the fact that the recording I made was of Sophocles' Ajax which maybe he saw on the website about it.

I'm not sure really. :-) Anyway, I just sent them the bounced down recording which I mixed to -18.5 on the EBU Meter.

I just love mixing. :-)

It wasn't meant to be detrimental to his fun experience, and his memory of it.

It was meant to say, that I see a different story ... instead of the same old story. But it is hard to say anything, because it's like some folks here are just here to stroke each other's ego's so they can continue doing what they do ... and I do not need to stroke my ego to do something, because none of my work is about the ego, but some folks here don't get it!

Mosh, there's a big difference between "stroking each other's ego" and being happy for someone's positive experience.
I realized a long time ago that the world didn't revolve around me, so I just let go my ego. If this was an amateur/noob/inexperienced audio forum, I may very well get my ego mojo back.

One of the things I have loved the most in my life, was photographing "friends", and not stars ... and spending time with them. I didn't need to "drop names" of the many bands I have done some photos with for them, since I never have sold any of my pictures, though GONG did sell the 8x10's of the band that I took in 1995 at Berbatti's here in Portland. They used that picture for a couple of tours and posters. I have met, since I was a child so many literary dignitaries, that saying anything here is crazy, and people thinking I'm just pulling their noses or ears! It's not important, but it's hard to not "understand" and "see" what some of them were about ... because their comments and lines and playing with the children, is really no different than their work ... it's the same person!

I love it when someone gets the fun and the goods in these situations, and I wanted to add to it as an example that things could also get better, but they can also go downhill so fast that it is sad, and some folks never recover from it. I quit at the "top" because of the vanity involved, and that was that. What I wanted to do was not about ... let's get stoned ... so to speak ... or let's have a drink!

I would, and have, forever, tried to guide everyone to theater, film, music and the arts ... but ... it didn't show here! Sorry to be me!
