  • Various issues with Native Instruments as plugins within Sonar. This time it is FM8

Hi, several Native Instruments from Komplete 8 Ultimate have a common issue when used as plugins within Sonar X3 or Platinum, because they have default internal parameters set that make the plugin's internal Master Output volume connect to the track fader.

The fix for this is to go into an affected instrument loaded into Kontakt, for example, then to click on the wrench in the Kontakt multi-rack for that instrument, which exposes additional parameters for that instrument.  Clicking on the Instrument tab then exposes the one option we need to change, labelled 'Accept Standard Controllers for Volume and Pan'.  Removing the check for that parameter and clicking OK fixes the above issue.

No big deal, and the same fix is there for Kontakt, Battery 3, Massive, etc., but unfortunately, this does NOT seem to be the case for the FM8 synth.,  I cannot seem to find the corresponding parameter to change it to how I need it to operate in FM8, and it is driving me NUTS.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

OK - I think I may have a work-around for this.  For each instance of FM-8 in my Sonar project, FM-8 seems to have a default parameter in its Master section, way over on the right side. that connects CC-7 to Master Volume.

When this default parameter is left with that setting, any volume changes I make internally in that FM-8 loaded instrument/preset get reset immediately upon starting playback, which makes me want to go crazy.

So, after digging around for others with the same sort of situation with FM-8, I ended up 'removing' that midi CC assignment pairing of CC-7 to Master Volume, and now, when I change the volume for a loaded preset in FM-8 and then hit Play in Sonar, it finally leaves MY volume setting change in place, and the world becomes a happy place again, with rabbits and birdies singing on my doorstep.  :)

Also - please be aware that the same sort of issues exist with other Native Instruments components of their various versions of Komplete.  In my case, I happen to still use Komplete 8 Ultimate, and I have seen the CC-7 to Master Volume issue present in instruments loaded into a multi-rack of Kontakt 5, and for drum kits loaded into Battery 3.  I also think (not sure on this one) that it may exist in Massive and Reaktor too.

Thanks, Bob, good to know.  I have Kontakt 5 and a couple of the Abbey Road Drummers, and I'm probably gonna finally jump on the Komplete wagon next time NI has a sale.

something similar to this was happening to me in K10 when I inserted a bass guitar as the first plug, anytime I satrted playback the instruments volume went to almost zero, and I had removed all cc 7 and 11 commands from that midi track as well as making sure there was no sys-ex business going on.. I finally inserted a cc7 at the beginning of the track to "fix it" , but I will look into your remedy, thanks for the tip!!!

I just learned something new, and important. Thanks Bob, it explains a few things.
