I went to the knowledge base - no help there.  I went to "Email Technical Support" - they send you to the knowledge base so there is no email technical support.

I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 USB sound device that has ASIO drivers.  However, Cakewalk Sonar Platinum gives the following error on launch:
"There are no audio devices for the current driver model on your system.  Please go to Preferences > Audio > Playback and Recording and choose a different driver model."
When I follow these instructions I see that ASIO is selected and the choices are MME 32 bit, WASAPI, etc.  I don't want them.  I want the ASIO drivers I paid for.  In "Devices" I see that "Focusrite USB 2.0 Audio Driver output 1 and 3" are both unchecked.  I check them and all seems fine except that I have no sound no matter what I load.  In fact, I have no sound from anything on my PC.  The moment I close Sonar I get sound back on my PC.
I have exhausted all avenues and am unable to operate this software.  Anyone have any ideas?

Hi. Do you have the latest drivers for it?
Is you 2i4 connected via an USB hub? If so, connect directly from pc instead.
Have you made sure that your outputs end up going to your 2i4?
Try unplugging, and plug back in again.
That's what I had for now.
All the best.

Hi zargg,
The drivers are up to date, the 2i4 is connected directly to the PC and as I said the error unchecked outputs 1 and 3 and I re-checked them myself.  What is telling is that as soon as I closed down Sonar sound returned to all aspects of my PC.  That is, the engagement of the ASIO drivers in Sonar cuts off all sound to my PC including to Sonar.

In my mind that tells me that something else is occupying the drivers.
Do you have anything else running in the background?
I have a Focusrite Solo on my laptop setup, and do not have these issues.

I'm really at a loss.  I tried watching the "getting started" videos in support but realized I still had Sonar running and so I have absolutely no sound anywhere on my PC except for the output of channel 1 and 2 of the Kontact 5 plug in when building a virtual synth.

Almost 20 years ago I wrote reams of music using a little scoring program called "Noteworthy Composer."  It used sound fonts (Creative's SF2).  Recently, I bought the same program to convert the .NWC files into midi files with the idea of exporting them to Cakewalk to improve them and to give them a better soundscape.  However, because the only sounds this scoring program played was the atrocious "Microsoft's Wavetable Synth" I downloaded a program called "Coolsoft's VirtualMidiSynth" that played the .SF2 soundfonts the material was written with.  I've used Task manager to try to find conflicting drivers to no avail and I can't find "VirtualMidiSynth" in any of Sonar's available plugins.  And even if Coolsoft was the source of my problem it does not explain why all sound other than channel 1 and 2 out for the Kontact 5 plugin has disappeared from my PC until I close down Sonar.

I assume you are using a laptop and not a desktop? Go into control panel/sound and see if your device is there. Whether or not it is, disable the other devices for now (onboard PC soundcard.) Don't worry about Sonar for now. Make sure your soundcard is the default device for the rest of your computer. Is that working? (aka itunes, youtube, etc are playing loud and clear through the external card)
Then open Sonar and see if it recognizes it.

It looks to me that the problem is you can't have both ASIO and the MME necessary to use your Coolsoft app which is written to work with a windows mode sound driver.
Try MME in SONAR or look for something else to play your soundfonts as a VSTi within SONAR to allow you to use your ASIO driver there.
You might be able to try WASAPI and get the Coolsoft app to work that way. I attempted to get to their website but they wouldn't let me access without turning off my adblocker so I declined to visit.

Here's a free SFZ player that converts SF2 - the player is excellent, can't say how good the conversion is - works as a VSTi in a DAW environment.

I'm sorry to have not responded sooner - Ill health has kept me in bed.

The problem is not Coolsoft or any other program.  I have broken the problem down into segments:

The First:  When I launch Cakewalk Sonar Platinum two things happen.  My Firefox browser launches four windows for ads that have nothing to do with music (every time - one is for baby formula, another is insurance, etc - this suggests some kind of virus but Norton's doesn't see it.)  The other is that all sound disappears from my PC - Sonar Playback, Windows sounds, Youtube sound, etc.  I lose the sound before I open a project.  And, since Sonar is set to use ASIO, I see no reason why I shouldn't be getting the Windows file opening and closing sounds.  If I can figure this out perhaps remaining problems with sonar just may sort themselves out.

The first things I would do:
Remove Norton from your system. It's horrible and can cause all manner of issues.
D/L the free version of Malwarebytes and run a scan of your system to see what sort of virus you have.
Set up the free Windows AV program. It's good and doesn't mess with your system.
After scanning your system remove your asio drivers, do a restart and then D/L and reinstall the latest drivers.
After all that is done see what happens and report back.
