Lynn - I think Waves has extended the Redd Console March sale and it is available yet for $149. One of the things I like about it, besides the fuller analogue console sound, are the Abbey Road EQ curves. There is a video on YouTube where a gent reviews the Redd Console features. I think it is Zo from the Cakewalk Forums. The bit I was particularly interested in were his review of the Tone Controls and subsequent EQ curves between 4:31-11:42.
Vicente - Thanks, that is exactly what I heard with the plug, Warmer and more fullness.
Phil - Makes perfect sense, this is exactly the sound that I felt has eluded my mixes from the beginning. They are all just a bit sterile sounding. I feel this plug has added some nice dimension to the track.
Gary - Thanks for the comment, I am happy with the result.
Tim - I actually have Cakewalk FX Tape Sim on all the guitar and vocal tracks. It does help considerably to take some harshness away and add a bit of meat to the sound. I feel the tape sim and the ProChannel Console Emulation together made a good combination but I just don't think it was quite as good as this. I could spend hours tweaking but would rather stick a plug in the track and call it a day;) Thanks for the listen.
James - You ask an excellent question. I grew up in the 70's and harmonic smearing or "the analogue sound" was what we had and it was pretty good. This is the sound I like. However, kids today may listen to this and think it is garbage because they are used to a digital and uber-compressed sound. I am glad that this is a hobby and not a career so I don't have to contemplate this and other mind numbing topics related to the music industry;)
