Please check out this new song I've been working on! For the first time- I've had someone else play bass and someone play drums. Usually I'm stuck with playing bass myself and creating drum trucks. http://thefatalcrush.bandcamp.com/track/glimpse

dear faust, great song, this is THE sound I like. some missing persons, the cars and gary numan influences there. love it. The only little, tiny thing I need to critisize if that the drums, apparently played by a human, lack some timing and tightness. I know how tiring it is to create drum tracks with a drum machine, but they are at least in time ;-) that said, again, great song, thanks a lot for posting. now I have to listen again...

Definitely 80's with a infectious beat.  Nicely mixed and produced.  Nicely sung and like how the guitars sound.

I enjoyed this song and production.  The timing issues weren't severe to me, and could easily be fixed.  You're on to something, and I look forward to hearing more from you.

Totally captures that New Wave feel and sound. Mix is nicely balanced, good job with New Wave-style reverb--lots of reverb, but not blurry or muddy.

I have just a couple of comments about the music composition itself. For this style of song, 40 seconds feels like a long time to get to the vocal, unless there's more happening in terms of riffs and musical ideas. This arrangement is what I would want and expect to hear in concert, while for radio play there could be a short-intro version that gave you about a 3:40 timing for the whole song.

Speaking of riffs, that opening synth riff would feel more New Wave to me if it had an additional twist in the form of syncopation. One way you could do this would be to introduce its first note on the final 16th of the preceding measure, tied across to the next full bar. So the listener will be waiting to see how the beat falls--and the drums will crystallize that fundamental beat when they come in, and reveal the syncopation. This is a *really* common trick in many pop genres, and very effective.

Just an idea; mix sounds good, well done.

Sounds good to me, everything is in its own space and I can hear each part clearly. Very nicely mixed and arranged. Nice clear vocals. Nice guitars and synth. Enjoyed this, thanks for sharing.

Peace and blessings, John

Thanks for the suggestion. Never thought of something like that, but I would like to try it! I enjoyed your feedback

Thanks for the comments on the timing guys. I realize it is actually not my drummers fault, but I doubled his snare by using a sample and sometimes I didn't align it perfectly which gives the illusion of being off time. I'll have to try it without doubling his snare. I recorded the drums direct from an electric drum kit and for some reason the snare sounded thin when it got recorded.

Timing issues are pretty well documented, so I'll just say that I have listened to this several times and really liked it overall.
Minor crit for me would be that the first line of the chorus...."I get a glimpse" just feels like it needs something else to lift it a bit, or a different delivery - it sort of goes a little bit flat before it picks up again. Almost like one of the band made a mistake if that makes sense.
