The idea here was to start with a [synthesized] straight piano, and very gradually morph the timbre throughout, changing to synthesizer sounds. Piano was generated by Pianoteq and modifications thereof, and Zebra2 synths. All comments pro/con welcome. https://soundcloud.com/je...humann-traumerei-24-96

I'm guessing you accomplished what you were looking for. I was thinking it was going to be totally different by the end with the birth of a totally new sound and more morhed. Very pleasing to the ear, I shouldn't let my mind get ahead of itself. Verynice piano piece.

Peace and blessings, John

Thanks, TGP. There are some short classical piano pieces that are played so often, by so many students, that it's difficult to hear them with fresh ears anymore. The aim was to try to use timbres to wake up these 'stale' pieces.

On this arrangement, I was trying to think of how to intensify the musical feeling that was already in the work--but not to step further into a modern re-interpretation of reconception of the piece.

Also, I was just twiddling the settings on the Pianoteq, to see what sort of pseudo-pianos might result.

Very enjoyable. Rather than morph the piano sound mildly, I would have perhaps added additional instrumentation...... strings, cello, making it a small ensemble.

Thanks, GuitarHacker. I thought about that, using the synthesizer to simulate real instruments. However, when I researched it, I found a LOT of arrangements of the piece already out there, with live players (for example, excellent work done here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHVpVBL67l4 ). I like to use the synthesizers to do things that cannot or have not been done with other resources electronic or acoustic. In traditional music, timbre is what it is, and cannot morph in this way at all. Making timbre a musical element that can vary independently is an idea that really appeals to me.
