Dude Ivey
I tend to focus more on the Kick Drum, Snare Drum, Vocals and Elec. Guitars. The bass guitar i usually try to just warm up the track with it. But yes, I use a compressor and EQ and i use it on everything else. As far as EQ on the bass i always start out with a High Pass Filter at about 90Hz. I dont want to hear the bass guitar in my sub. I sometimes add some high end to the bass guitar so u can hear it in your front end speakers. I want the kick drum pounding the sub! I've got my sub at home and in my truck crossed over at about 70Hz. The compressor on the bass i'll usually start out about the same as the guitar, about 7 or 8 db's. I forgot to say earlier that i always put a high pass filter on the guitars too around 125 to 150Hz.
I also use an external crossover made by DBX with my monitors. Much more precise crossover than the one built into the KRK 10 sub which we both have.
I use a high pass filter on Every track at various frequencies.

Dude!: I loaded another one, tried your example for the bass guitar. This is a dry mix, no mastering. The bass is too loud,but.... i am getting closer! another 16 mixes I and I just may have it! LOL.

Agree, bass is more balanced, no longer has the B jumping out. Also agree bass should come down a bit, still eating up a lot of energy in the stereo mix. Definitely improving--great tips from Dude to make that happen.

This is a song that I would expect to hear on my classic rock station.  It has a 70s and 80s sound that has a familiar vibe that was popular for a long time.  You're not far off, and if you continue to work with this I'm sure you will find the right sound.  You're on the right track.

Youve got a great sounding mix now! I can hear every instrument including the vocals very clearly and everything theyre doing. Just listen to it more and more and balance it out until its perfect for you. As far as the bass being too loud, thats just a matter of taste. I tend to turn the bass down too much usually. So just play around with it now. Its sounding very clear and when you can hear everything thats going on within the mix you are very very close! Awesome job!

Personally i think you're there man. I think any mix can always be better so any changes you make from here on out is just for practice. Print a version and listen to it everywhere u can but also, start playing around with your other songs too. If you dont, you'll start to hate this mix and just think everything sounds bad. It sounds good, be proud of it!
