Wow, lots of great feedback, thank you!

I'll get busy tooking and hopefully listening to some of these choices.

On the KOMPLETE 10 vs. KOMPLETE 10 Ultimate ... are the good samples/instruments living in "Ultimate" or can I found something nice in the standard verison of KOMPLETE 10?

Cheers, Rob.

Piano wise Ultimate will add Alicia's Keys to the "Definative Piano Collection" and "The Giant" found in Komplete. I only have Komplete so I can't comment on Alicia's keys but if pianos are your main focus I would say Komplete has it reasonably well covered. Komplete also includes the Scarbee Electric Pianos too.
Of course there is a aweful lot of other stuff in Ultimate but it does not add too much in the piano department.

The new NI Grandeur  is pretty nice and might be what you're looking for.  Although I still think the Hammersmith is the better sounding instrument.

Actually, all the new NI pianos and The Giant are from these guys: http://www.galaxy-instruments.com/index.html

I'm not a big fan of the NI pianos. I do like Addictive Keys and Pianoteq. I also have EWQL Pianos which are good, but I've been using Piaboteq more and more.

I agree with that regarding their older pianos. They always sounded a bit "thin" to me. Always took a fair amount of work to get them to sound good.

I concur. But the new ones are a a big step forward.

Listened to some of the suggestions:

1.  The Grand - tad noisey
2.  Pianoteq - thin
3.  Addictive Keys - flat and too bright in some spots
4.  The Hammersmith - spot on

Now I'm over 50 so my ears are certainly not "golden" ... just my opinion of the sounds.  Probably going to go with the Hammersmith.

Thanks again for all the input.

Cheers, Rob.

I have Pianoteq and it is very good. However, if you have Kontakt, try out OrangeTree Samples Evolution Rosewood Grand. It is phenomenal, and it has taken over as my go-to piano. It is a sampled Yamaha C7, and even though I had dismissed Yamaha and preferred Steinway for years, this one changed my mind.

You won't be disappointed with that choice.

+1 on OTS ERG.
As for Komplete 10 versus Ultimate: K10U is absolutely huge but piano-wise you're not losing out when only Alicia's Keys is missing.
