I do have full Kontakt 4 and 5. I was hoping to hear people liked the NI upright cuz I will get that next time I upgrade. Thanks for mention of the SimpleSam, I like that a lot and at the price it's a no brainer for me. I really like the Sampletekk Rain Piano too. Is the upgraded Rain worth the extra cash? The prices for these is lower that I had expected to so I might 2.

I am just a bit surprised no one mentioned the 2 Toontrack uprights. Not real surprised though. I think the TT Vintage Upright is a very nice sounding piano just not very uprightish. Maybe in the fall but not more than half price. I'm really starting to like what I hear from the SimpleSam and the Rain. Like the prices too.

+1

I dislike most Upright VSTi Pianos (As they sound tinny or out-of-tune), but the ones from Toontrack and XLN Audio are quite solid and appeal to my tastes.

For a slightly "less clean" upright sound, I'd recommend the Toontrack Vintage or Precision Sound's Nordic Upright.

That's a good thread Fleer. And I agree with the no more uprights that aren't in tune. That seems to be the big temptation to take the shortcut and have a out of tune upright sample library. You get plenty of those with other  libraries.

Never tried TT, but I've got the SimpleSam upright and after just a few simple tweaks, I have my own preset that I like 'mucho gusto'.
Some good options there on his pages to fine tune [or rather tweak] as well.

Get the Rain (Mk1) first, you can always upgrade for the actual price difference. That way you even get both. And as a Sampletekk customer, you'll get 60% off next time, including upgrades (check the upgrade tab).
Don't forget the Vertikal, mind you. Same strategy there: get Mk1 (huge library with two upright flavors, pop and jazz) and then next time get the (smaller) Mk2. You'll keep both.

Thanks Fleer. Thank you to everyone who responded. I got more info than I thought I might and lots of good, and mostly cheap options.

Whats wrong with Addictive keys? Prefer that to Kontakt to be honest..

Nothing wrong with the Addictive Keys upright. It's the best one I have and it is way better than the old NI upright. I would like something a bit more uprightish sounding. And that doesn't mean a bunch of out of tune samples. Maybe more Vince Guaraldi sounding.
