This is great fun! And Danny's solo, all that matters is it speaks to us. And it speaks loud and clear to me. Great job all around.

Congrats on the retirement Phil. I sure wish I could too.

Me like. Loved the guitar solo very much. Well done guys.

Lucky for me, when this song finished, it went on to homeland. Love that song.

Mark.

Danny guitar licks, maybe pete is hearing alot of notes, what i hear is modes,i hear the scales, the melodic flow of his lead progressions, thay are amazing.

I guess some people are more impressed by quantity of notes as opposed to quality of notes.

What did stand out too in the solo was that it sounded so thin. I think maybe it's the GB25s, but brother, the tone sounds like it's eminating from a telephone speaker. My constructive criticism for Danny would be to try not to shove a milllion notes into the solo, try to plan ahead and be more deliberate about what you are going to say in a solo. In the middle of this one it seems like there was point where the solo became lost for a moment and then randomly scurried off in a different direction. Planning will help with this. I would also would suggest cutting down on the bite on the tone and fattening it up a bit. The edge on the tone was like fingernails on a chalklboard. It would sound a lot better if the solo were more appropriate for the style of the song too. This one had a nice bluesy groove to it and a more melodic solo would fit better.

I did think overall Phil did a great job with the song though.

Why don't you play the solo and use your Dumble amp with your JBL pa speakers that spit out drum loops? Truth be told, the version of the song I played to instrument wise and eq wise was not what the final became. The version I soloed over was sort of thin and lacking definition because it wasn't really done yet, so I grabbed a strat and chose a sound that I felt complimented what was presented to me at the time.

I actually asked Ed if he felt we should make the solo a bit less bitey since he made so many changes to the mix and he thought the solo section was ok as it was...so we went with it. I'm sure Ed or Phil would send you the track minus my solo. If you can do a better job, I'd rather the better job make it to the song. So please feel free.

Thanks for the kind words everyone else...and thanks for letting me jam on the song Phil. Let ole pete play on the next one. Unlike me, he may have more than 10 minutes to put into the solo between client renders and do a better job that fits the song.

Phil,
Congrats on your retirement.  I hope your stepping away from the rat race allows you many more opportunities to write more songs like this one.  Great job!

This song was a pure joy to listen to.  Phil I really enjoyed your singing style and the raspyness to your vocal.  It is very fitting to the song.

The contributions by everyone was top notch.  Loved the Drums, MIDI Bass  and the Guitars.

Danny it's the net and despite the source from which the comments are coming from there is always something to gleen from things people tell you.  Don't let anyone get under your skin.  Especially here!

Awesome job guys.  This was a blast to listen to.

Phil, I retired two years ago, and I can relate to this song.  All involved did a fine job, and I applaud you all.  Pete, why don't you adapt your jazz stylings to this song and blow us away?

For sure, with you there completely. There's also a way that people can go about telling others their feelings without such harshness. Ed can attest...if I would have given him a totally thick guitar tone for what we started with, it would have stuck out like a sore thumb as being too thick.

We had a twangy rhythm, super high pitched snare, a bit too much beater in the kick, plinky piano, sibilent vocals....that's the mix I had to work with to record my parts. So what do you do, disregard that and just go for a super thick tone and tell them to accept it? LOL! Ed turned the mix completely around for the better, Phil re-recorded vocal parts. I'm not even sure Daves drums are the ones I played to. LOL! So yeah, if the mix I got to do my part on sounded like this, I would have definitely chosen a different tone for sure. But for where we were when I did my part, it fit perfectly to me. I tried to play for the song, ya know? I thought I did that..keeping it bluesey until the end. Can't please everyone...and that's ok too. :)

I know my playing and style isn't for everyone. I got no problems taking lumps that way....I just thought some of this was a bit uncalled for really and I feel targeted as the dude has been following a few of my posts bashing on me every chance he gets. It gets old, ya know? I'm not offended...I just can't see the reason for any of it as I've never done anything to the guy other than tell him he's harsh with his comments to others. Oh well, it is what it is. I'm still happy with the outcome and am happy to have been a part of this. :)

Thanks for the re-assurance though Rich. :) I'm just sorry this dude came into the thread to where there's a bit less of an enjoyment factor if you're me. I come on and see all this cliche stuff and bashing going on....it's just really sad to see someone that jealous of another person to try and go out of their way like this.

Just point and laugh, Danny. By acknowledging the guy and letting him get under your skin you're giving him exactly what he wants.

You could also review his tunes (if they are indeed his tunes) like I have. It's fun! ;-)

To PistolPete- Leonard, your post #5 amounted to nothing more than a personal attack on two of the finest musicians and greatest guys I know.  That stuff has no place here, so I'd appreciate it if you'd just stay off the thread.  You tried to turn it constructive in a subsequent post, but the damage was done and it was too late. While I thank you for the complimentary bone you threw my way, the truth is that I'm just another aging songwriter/rocker who'd be an absolute nothing without the likes of those three guys helping me out.  Do us all a favor and keep your distance!
