Many thanks to Phil for letting me participate on this song.

Thanks to Danny for his production tips and I stand by the tone of his solo as I had the opportunity to listen to this in a cr@p KIA car stereo last night (not min, a friends car) and the whole song (including the solo) sounded great there. Everything perfectly balanced.

We all know that we all have different systems (i.e. equipment used to listen) so I generally chalk comments up to that fact (unless more than a few mention the same "problem" they hear).

I want to give a shout out to Carl (who mostly frequents the software forum) for the bass fx chain he sent me. I used it here (with some tweaks of course; since we all know presets are never exactly what we want). I had a pretty good tone initially but this FX chain may be something I use more than once. Thanks Carl.

Lastly I have to say that for the first time since I've been on these forums I have now blocked one user. Nuff said.

The needle and the damage done...

Don't mess with the needle, and the spoon.

Phil,

Congrats on your retirement.   I really enjoyed your song and all the performances.   Like the gritty vox.   The mix is well done.  These collaborations are always interesting, this one particularly because I have heard a lot music from each of the your collaborators on their own.  In this case, it is easy to pick out the different personalities but yet, it all works together very well.   Personally I think the mix is really well done and I am also a big fan of the guitar solo.   Very melodic, colorful and blends well with the song.  Great job gents...

Regards

Love it! Great song, great mix, and of course, great soling from Danny.

Pete can just go where the sun don't shine - sounds like rank  jealousy to me

The song and production sound really good you guys.  I listened at home early this morning and in my car driving to work (not retired yet) and it is a lot of fun to hear.

Ed - did you use RotoSound strings on your bass (I think I spelled it wrong)?  It really was clear on this song.  Drums sounded like SD 2 played with pads?  Nice job.
I liked the roughness of the vocal.  It added much character especially for the theme of this song!  I will never be able to play like Danny so it is always nice to hear what he does on a song.  Good job too.

One thing I would do to this track is use a sim and EQ to add a little more of a biting distortion to the rhythm guit. Not much and I like what I'm assuming is an amp tone here but I think if there was a bit more hi end sauce on it it would get the solo and rhythm matching perfectly. I think it would really compliment the gritty vocals too.

Not a critique... just something I envisioned while listening. I am kind of a distortion addict though so it's probably just me.

Ed - did you use RotoSound strings on your bass (I think I spelled it wrong)? It was my P-Bass. Can't tell you about the strings. They are abut 6 months old and like Sir Paul I just buy "the shiny silver ones". I almost never pay attention to brand name.

Drums sounded like SD 2 played with pads?  Nice job. Nope. The drums were payed live.

Thanks Jimmy.

Rotosound is the way to go Ed. You should play them on your Alembic by all means.

My Alembic has Alembic strings on it. Seriously, Alembic has strings with their brand name on them.

I actually know I used a Rotosound set years ago on my Alembic. Nothing about them stood out. YMMV.
