...Hitfilm offers NOTHING you don't already have on the editing side of things. It's value is in providing special fx and compositing cheaply. There is NO  easy compositing program and tutorials tend to be head scratchers to most beginners due to all the jargon.

That was exactly my reason to give it a try.   I haven't been using Vegas that long but I've picked up editing basics easy enough.   It's the comp and FX that I look forward to playing with; e.g., editing in Vegas than importing that into HitFilm for the special sauce.    Well, at least that's the plan...

Good approach.  I certainly would rather edit in Vegas than hitfilm.  If you outgrow the fx portions of hitfilm, black magic offers fusion for free now, which is much harder to learn but exponentially more powerful. Many blockbuster movies have used Fusion.

Fyi, they offer a better free editor  as well that happens to be industry standard for color correction

Also appreciate the freebie, but haven't wrapped my head around it or used it for anything looking back since the ver 2 free offer. Likely an ignorant user learning curve on my part, not understanding how to put it to use. Seems like a powerful software otherwise.

Using Sony Vegas home whatever that does the job. Anyone without a video editing software already should check it out however.

I got ver 2 for 1 cent a while back (missed the freebie ;)) and found it quite intuitive for the few video projects I've done since. Whilst I haven't utilized the full explosions and camera sweeps etc, titling and transition FX suited me nicely.

I'll be chasing this up - thanks Larry.

Recognise ....

That some of the effects that were/are in Hitfilm Express 2 don't appear to have made the journey to Hitfilm Express 3 (without paying for additional packs).
e.g,
Grunge > Flicker, Jitter, Shake and Stutter gone ... Grain and Noise remain ... Half Tone is new
Those FX are spread across the Damage and Destruction Packs at $25 a pop.
Particle & Simulation > Blood Spray, Gunfire, Lightning & Electricity gone ... Rain On Glass new
Those FX are also part of the Destruction Pack.

Yes - there are some new ones ... but my point is - they are different ... so you may want keep Hitfilm 2 Express installed as well - which appears to work.

ASIDE: It appears that all the plugins are deployed with Hitfilm Express 3 but there obviously something triggering their activation. I also tried copying the HE2 Ligtning.hfpl to HE3 - no go.

That recognised - still a great freebie (albeit with a somewhat expected upsell intent - Packs or Pro).
