I haven't really been too active with writing. So I figured while waiting for a good song idea I'd tweek a few oldies.

You may remember Footsteps in the Hall.

New vocal track recorded in 2 takes. I did it this morning first thing and I like it the best of all the vocal stylings I have attempted on this song in past sessions. It worked pretty effortlessly and very little editor was used to "fix" it. So it's about 97% untouched.

I also have Jamstix 3.xxx on the drums

I decided to play the piano part....so that's me playing... yup.... I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Of course, the Taylor and the mandolin is also me playing. Damn I love the mandolin!!!!

Everything else is likely not me playing. I think.....

anyway....enjoy!

I have so many that need re-mixing, like "all of them that I did the mix on?" :-)

I can hear you enjoying that Mando :-D It's a fun instrument isn't it? I love the mandolin...

I think I remember this tune? I do like this remix very much. It reminds me of one of my favorite bands "of all time" A bluegrass band called "The Seldom Scene" A group I've seen live probably 3 dozen times? This feels like one of their songs.

I like it. If I could change anything, I would change the word memories to mamories? :-) (they light the corners of my mind?) Mix sounds great to me.

In fact? Here's the song (by the Seldom Scene) that it reminded me of;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Dj9yyHyvZ0

Please note, this is high praise? At one point I had every one of their albums (20+) And I learned to play the violin/fiddle playing their music on my record player.

If I was in charge? If I were king of the Forrest?

I may pull the fiddle down a weence? And push the bass by an equal amount... And I may take some of the highs off of that snare? And I may pull the hats down just a bit? But "**DISCLAIMER**" Any mix advise I give may be hosed. I just call um the way I see um? Too many balls these days? Wish I could see more strikes.

So while my disclaimer stands? Remember this you must (in the words of Yoda...) Smarter than you the forum is?(Mmmm?) Wise are you to remember this...

It's a bit loud on the mix. Other than that is sound freaking great Herb!! Vocals were spot on. The Clarity was superb!!

It is really loud, I've been doing that myself lately. Just thought I'd mention it.

Great song and mix!!

The remix sounds good to me. Not much on country music, but this sounds really nice. Very nice playing all around.

Peace and blessings, John

That's a great song Herb... Mix sounds good, but the Hihat sounds a little too out front to me... everything else is very nice to my ears... Well done Herb...

Robby: Thanks... high praise indeed to be compared to Seldom Scene.... great bunch of musicians

Bobby: This mix may be loud but it's not compressed. See the screen shot of the wave.

John: thanks for the listen

Frank: I had a listen again this morning and fixed a few nits with it.

Fixes and tweeks:

I pulled the EQ down a bit on the high end of the drum track and lowered the overall level a few db.

I added some "EQ brightener" to the piano and then needed to pull it down a bit.  The piano BTW is the Cakewalk Sound center Concert Grand #1

I edited a few of the "I've" places with envelopes to loose the 3 spiky places and the wave looks better now....

So now you're a keys player too?  Between you and Robby, I'll be out of a job soon!

This is real nice...Good job on the keys for sure.  And I agree...nice vocals.  :)

Herb, you've done a super job on this song.  I use Jamstix, too, and I like the way you mixed it.  The performances are solid all the way around.  Well done!

I'm with you when it comes to loving the mandolin.  Sounds great on my end, Herb. I really like the slower tempo IMO it fits the mood/vibe of the song better.  Super job on writing the lyrics.
If I had nit-pick the mix . . . I would bring the verb/delay down a smidge on the lead vocals during the verse of the song. They sound great during the chorus but a bit heavy on the verses. KUDOS!

The Maillard Reaction

Real nice song.

I love the slow but sure vibe.

The singing is very nice!

The harmonies you go with on the fiddle seem just right.

best regards,
mike
