It seems like whenever I search for the answer to a question with Google, most of the results it gives me are forum and blog posts from 2012. Of course when it comes to technical issues, 3 years ago is pretty much vintage. I know I can filter results by date, I just find it interesting that so many of its search results are dominated by a particular year and wonder if Google's ranking algorithm skews for age like this.
Google's search algorithms are a bit of a secret, but most people think that it gives higher placement to sites that are chosen to visit most often by the searcher. That would tend to give an edge to senior sites since they have been available longer, and are more often to have been judged to be the "answer" (last site visited?) by searchers. A brand new link would have to build up a following to move up in the results. That said, I often google a question asked on these forums to see what is out there, and surprisingly often the first hit is the question on this forum that is only a few hours old.
