I think this could be one of those gems one finds every so often at this site.  However, it sounds rather chaotic,at the moment, due to the mix.  All the elements are there, but it sounds a little jumbled.  The voice, bass, guitar, drums, and harmonica are competing for attention.  The panning is very narrow, almost mono, making things disappear behind other parts.  I think if you were to spread the instruments throughout the stereo spectrum, it would immediately help.  I believe this song has much potential and is worth the time to get right.

Thanks for your take on this Lynn. I'll see what I can do here.

wow... it is also massively over compressed. I had to turn it off after a short while as it was actually hurting my ears (twice). I agree that it seems like absolutely everything is competing for dominance. The vocal mix is really harsh. Add a harsh harmonica and harsh guitar... too much. I think I know what you were going for, and it is achievable but you need to think more about what goes where and how. Use other sources as reference.. black crows, wide mouth mason, or similar.

Sadly, I find myself in the consensus, Tim.  I think there's a pretty good tune hiding in there someplace.  Now you just have to let it get out.

I think this is absolutely fantastic. The mix though - it's really not good. If you could straighten this out - this could be really nice - I mean this could be a great tune. You've got a ways to go with the mix on this - good luck.

I'm going to go against the crowd here and say I kind of enjoyed the mix....sounds very rough and ready, the style of the music lets you get away with it to my ears anyway. Reminded me a bit of Captain Beefheart.

Yep, good song in here, loads of attitude and conviction in the performances. Mix needs some surgery though, I would strip it all back to the bass and drums, get that groove locked in, then get the vocal nice and clear out front. After that you can place the guitars and harmonica in the stereo field.

Yeah, I'm about the songwriting and I think your tapping into something here but it needs a little "airing out" and another mix.  You're on the right track.  Find the areas that sound like instruments are disappearing.  Some places it sounded like that to me.  Your guitar is probably too loud and lowering that a bit might help.  Someone said a bit chaotic.  +1  That's not all bad, though.

Where is the bass? It would complete the mix.
