I really appreciate all of your honest straightforward opinions here. That's the only way we can improve right?

I spend about 5% of the time actually playing and the other 95% is usually engineering. I didn't want to come back until it was better. I uploaded three tracks until I finally started to get close.

Ended up re-recording the harmonicas. I did a  LOT of  additional EQ work and changed the panning. I took a long time to find a verb that seemed right. Finally found one I think. Got a better verb feel I think by changing some send levels into the verb and adjusting the verb itself.

A few times I thought I was close until I listened off the phones. It really helps to listen out of the headphones if possible. In my case my wife was sleeping and I couldn't get as much live room listening as I wanted.

I did some chopping where the parts were fighting for attention and added some automation in other places....hopefully it is starting to shape up a little better now.

Sounding a whole lot better!

Couple of suggestions -

Back off some of the hi freqs on that distorted guitar left of centre, it's quite 'fizzy'. In fact that guitar almost overpowers the song, it could come down quite a bit.

Love the verb on the clean guitar and the harmonica.

Drums could be a lot bigger, especially the kick and snare.

Still can't detect a bass.

Thanks James, I'll see whats up with the bass. Who knows, maybe I accidentally deleted the bass track. I usually bump my bass up in the 150/250 range depending on the bass and the track so it will still be heard on lesser systems like lappy speakers....I probably did something stupid again..thanks.

Late as so often sounds very thin here.

Will look for the remix

I wasn't hearing the bass on the 1st listen, let me know when it's fixed and I'll check it out again.

Very gritty and dirty working sound for me. A song like this, especially with the photograph you chose for the song representation, kind of all fits together. There are several mistakes that need working on and some tweaking needed here and there, but as for what I think your trying to represent you have done quite well. Greasey, grimey and nasty working. Makes you feel like going into the coal mining business. Not a bad start. Keep WORKING on it and we'' all see what comes up for the final production.

Peace be with you. Blessings, John

Neat tune. Could use some work getting the levels even. The harp is a bit too loud at times and the drums seem to get swallowed up in the mix. I like the shear emotion which cuts through in the vocals and guitars. Perhaps cut back a bit on the distortion on the lead guitar and rebalance the bass. Lots to work with here, well worth the effort of cleaning up.

Good song.  Introducing a lot of elements in the intro seems a bit chaotic.  +1 on the harp/guitar levels - sometimes they are fighting too much to be forward.  I would give them each some front time to establish themselves and play w/ that.

But a real rocker - and love the harmonica.  Great listen.

Wookie- Thanks for the listen. I made some more tweaks on the bass hopefully on other systems it will be a little more apparent and add some bottom to things. I always worry about making everything too muddy and bassy and go the other extreme.

The Band19- The bass should be better now. Thanks for listening.

John- Thanks for your comments. Yes I was going for a bluesy hard kind of feel on this. I noticed some really slight timing issues on the guitar parts. I haven't yet bothered to time stretch anything yet as I wasn't sure they were serious enough to go that extent. That fact that I think you heard them makes me reconsider this approach.

Tap- Thanks man, I will look at the distortion here and see if I can make it a bit less.

AT- I see what you mean. Especially at the beginning. Kind of busy.Appreciate the listen.

Just listening now and whilst the bottom seems to have made a distinct appearance there seems to be something missing in the middle there is quite a dip in the 400 Hz to 2 kHz area and you roll off real quick around 120 Hz.

This could just be furry alien ears and eyes.

Will keep coming back though there is something in the song.
