I'd been avoiding trying to write something new as i was scared i would'nt be able to and i'd get discouraged, but this track came out of the blue over the weekend after messing around on my DAW.

All comments welcome.  Hope you enjoy it.

I love it when it happens like that :-) Anyone who's written a few songs knows "exactly" what you're talking about.

Like the intro. Where it fades @ 1:37 and then comes back with a similar feel, I would go for "a transition there." Kind of like what you did @ 2:24, so you did it, just a bit later. But you could move that 2:24 break to 1:37 and then as Monty Python's Flying Circus would say? "Now for something completely different" at 2:24 :-) It was cool the way it slowed at the end.

Love the overall warm sound of this, it reminds me a little of Boards of Canada...especially that bass! Their song "Roygbiv" in particular....do you mind revealing how you got that sound?

I like how the track builds up and fades in different synths.  The drums breakdown and the variations on the melody adds interest to the track.  Great creativity in short amount of time.

"Out of the blue"... That's how it happens for me sometimes too... I love it when that happens...
This is great... I love how the tempo winds down at the end...
 Great work John...

This song has a lot going for it.  It has a number of subtle changes that keep ones interest, and it sounds full in regard to the overall spectrum of frequencies.  Everything is there from top to bottom.  You are very skilled at this style of music, and I always enjoy hearing your songs.

Yeah it's nice when a tune comes out of nowhere, especially when you were expecting the opposite to happen. :-)

Thanks for listening ansd commenting Robby, appreciate it.  It seems like maybe you're warming a bit to the electronica stuff?  Pleased you liked the ending as i was'nt sure about whether to fade it out or slow it down. I'm glad i chose this option.

Cheers.

Glad to see you got your thingys in gear.  :-)  I really like this one, John!  When I put it in the dance club scene I think it's just where it needs to be.  When I put it in my listening place, I could still use a lead instrument.   When I listen on the Sennheiser phones the bass instrument that starts the song is just right.  When I put it on the monitors, BX8a M-Audio, the bass intro has to be turned way down.  Could just be me though.  I'm really glad to see (hear) the furnace burning again, buddy!

Thanks J for the kind words. Pleased you liked the overall sound as i think this is one of the best sounding productions i've ever done.

The bass is from the "Dimension" synth from cakewalk that came with my DAW (Project 5)  I had edited it quite a bit and added some slight tube distortion to it.

The overall sound "warm" is most likely down to my choice of instruments and they're all native to my DAW. I have been using a different mastering technique recntly though and that probably has something to do with it. I'm using an older version of T-Racks and i tend to have the limiter on full with not too much compression. Sometimes, as with this track, i then run it through T-Racks again a couple of times for more light compression and limiting. Hope that helps cause i'm rubbiush at describing how i work as i'm so haphazard and it's mostly all done through trial and error, mostly error. :-)
