Music certainly aided me with my first impression help with who ultimately became my wife and soul mate. That was back in the days when the world was still in black n' white and DJs were only in radio stations.

The first day I mat her at age 13:
She had a student nylon string acoustic guitar, loved Zep and knew some of the open chords.
Well, I knew how to play stairway so I said here, put your fingers here and here now play these strings...
None one the other 13 and 14 year old guys that were her friends could play anything so there, That'll giver her something to think about tonight as she pillows her head.

I like so many other musicians am a bit of an intro-nerd so wielding a rock guitar has greased the wheels thus far. Not so much of late as using it gets more posey with each pass year.

So I've switch to drums.
What.......

I@RAIN.... In another thread you mention Hockey quite a bit... but I see your profile says you live in Vegas. Above you mention a "green card". Are you a transplanted Canadian by chance?

Yes I am. And I often say half jokingly that the finishing touch in terms of decoration for my studio will be one of these.

Except you'll call it "Ree-shard" instead of "Rich-erd."

Music making is the soothing of my soul. It lets me speak without words. It's a release of energy, whether good or bad is not important, that has to be made. It's not important to me if it's heard. It is my religion

Well music must serve an important human purpose otherwise it would have never evolved. It's essentially another language, and every bit as versatile as the spoken word if not more. I honestly think the happiest moments of my life have been music related. For me it's always been the smaller, more intimate musical events that have lit that fire under me. Years ago I was part of a group who put on an open mic night in a small cafe in Newcastle and it had all of the ingredients to make it a thoroughly magical experience of the type that people talk about 50 years later. A thoroughly talented bunch of musicians who got along like a house on fire; bring your own wine; the owner didn't care about the joints being passed around; we formed a barbershop quartet and sang our hearts out; every night was different. You know those nights where the booze is flowing (or whatever floats your boat), everyone's at just the right level of intoxication and the music is fantastic and there's a vibe and you experience the kind of rapture that makes life worth living. I don't go for those nights any more any I really should, because they demonstrate the power that music has on the soul.

I came across this video tonight - even if Irish music isn't your thing it's worth watching just to share in the joy, energy, enthusiasm and sheer foot stomping power of the music which went down in the pub that night. You can see why Irish music captivates the world and why people travel the length of the globe to experience nights like these. You won't experience anything like this in a large venue up on a stage. Everyone sat around as equals, audience and musicians, pints of Guinness on the tables, absolutely cracking music played by people at the top of their form. It's well worth sticking it out to 4:15 to see the wild and wonderful Cathy Jordan sing her first song. This to me is what music is all about.

Montreal & the Habs... That explains it. The real hockey capital of Canada despite what Toronto thinks

Partially correct... but when a true hockey fan see's #9 on a Habs jersey they actually pronounce it "The Rocket".

Sorry - we're getting off topic here.... it's playoff time and this Canadian get's diverted by his second passion pretty easily.

I'd go with a lot of what been said here!
  1. For me, I didn't really have anything I was good at and I had NO friends in jr. high or early high school before I really committed to practicing/performing music (jazz band, marching band, etc.) and I was never social until I did that.
  2. Making my own music has sharpened my skills to the point that I've been actually able to make some money doing it, as well as work non-profit for my church.
  3. Overall, it's an outlet for many of my general creative ideas. Most of them come in 8 or 16 bars
  4. I like hearing new, unusual (for me) things and it opens me up to new cultures, new people, and new possibilities!
sorry for getting back on topic

You are most welcome to go OT as it makes the thread a bit adventurous. Still no stories about the alternate reality but maybe it is best this way:)

Oops, I managed to quote a bit wrong. Now it looks like I said those things. I said only the last 2 sentences.
