I've been dutifully updating the Controller Editor, just to make the notifications go away in the SC. I don't need the software, but figured what the heck. Can't do any harm, right?
 
Then I noticed that it installs a Windows service (NIHardwareService) that starts up by default. I don't like unnecessary services, so I killed it and set it to Manual. But on the next CE update, durned if it didn't go behind my back and start that sucker up again, putting it back to Automatic.
 

That is interesting info. I wonder why they can't just start the service when you run the Controller Editor? It's not like I use Controller Editor unless I am modifying something on the S61 controller and that is not very often.
 
Must be some kind of Control Freak Thing...

1.8.1 Controller Editor no longer has Kore 2 as a option on the contrller drop down. If you are still using Kore 2 you will need to have version 1.7.4 of the controller editor which is available at the NI site as a download in the legacy section. How do I know this? Yes.

So yes the time has come to choose between Komplete Kontrol and Kore 2. At least with the contrller editor. I have Kore so that's free. $700.00 for a midi controller? I would love to have it but $700.00? One more time. $700.00?

I believe Kore2 will require Controller Editor 1.7.4 to make any changes. The info tab in service center will tell you which items have been affected. It's crazy I tell ya, just crazy...
