Really good production and, great vocals! I'd like to hear some BGV with the chorus, and the lead to stop when the vocal comes back in, lol. The snare is the only real flaw. I think it just needs to be a little tighter sounding, with less resonance (but don't kill it completely), then a touch of reverb to make it bigger.

Dan

@chuck:  there a few folks, including yourself that have responed to a few of my posts and was hoping you would take a listen. I felt silly asking you to, but hey, worst you could say is no.  And I wish I was the singer, that is actually my good buddy Gerry.  Yes, he is quite animated, he knew he was on video so he actually tamed it down a bit. He's a great singer! You should see him live!!

All,
Thanks for taking the time to listen and advise. I really appreciate it. the help i get from the folks here in the forums is paying off, at least I think it is, cuz everyone liked the mix. :)

One thing that I noticed was the wall decorations and the door being, to my surprise, open. I thought about that and came to the conclusion you use the hallway as an acoustic chamber?  In any case Gerry indeed gave a great performance and the capture was also as brilliant. This indicates to me a man that knows what he's doing

Well, I still just randomly turn knobs, but I think it sounds great, FWIW.  :)  And yes, he can sure sing!  Loved that!  And all of you...great performances and great song!

Carry on, those who know what you're talking about.  :)

@ohgrant: LOL, its a very small room and I leave the door open cuz the dog wants to come in. If I close it, the dog barks.  LOL!!!  I actually have some tracks with the dog barking on them. no echo chamber.  The room is treated with foam, the vocals don't seem to be effected by the room so much. There is a dog bed/pillow in my studio room and my dog hangs out there whenever I am in there. I will be recording or mixing and have the volume cranked and then the song ends...and I hear her snoring. Yes, I'm a dog geek!

Very reminiscent of Keel and Ron Keel's vocals. Also, the intros sounds a lot like Ratt too. The guitar tone fits the musical style very well to me. Also, I think the vocals sit very well with the rhythm guitars. To me the drums are the only area that I can't hear as well as I would like to. Most people have pointed out the snare issues. It sounds thin to me, and for this type of music, could stand to sound thicker.

One thing that I have found useful for live snare in heavier music is to browse samples from those included until I find one that cuts the way I like. Instead of replacing my tracks, I solo them and EQ until I get the same basic tonality as the sample. It's basically a shortcut that allows you to work with a solo'd track.

The kick lacks a little oomph.I would say a boost around 80 with some attack around 3K and scooped mostly between the two. Kick and snare are tough to get correct. When you get it, you'll know it and it will add the ba**s that you need for this song.

Like the song and was really impressed with the vocals.

Thanks for sharing.

KILLER tune!  Did take me back to the 80's hair band days.  I'm sure the others have given you this advice so sorry if I sound like a broken record.  The song is solid/powerful and the mix need to reflect this.  The mix doesn't sound bad on my end.  The tone of the guitars are great but they need to be thicker.  Maybe double up some tracks.  I would bring the bass up a smidge to add more bottom end and help add depth to the rhythm guitars.  Maybe add some chorus harmonies to the excellent vocals.  Actually I'm just nit picking you here but If I really had to change one thing it would be the snare drum. It needs that  lower end heavy metal thud.  Truth be said you have a very solid piece of music to be proud of.  KUDOS!

Ok folks, I haven't posted new version yet, but i learned something I wanted to point out.  I got feedback that the drums were not panned very well.  I had the toms panned pretty wide but they were not sounding this way.  Well, I used BFD2 on this tune and you need to pan the overheads, ambient, room mics to get the nice stereo seperation.  Took me a while to figure this out! LOL. Will post new version after the solo has been re- recorded!

Peace!
