Well, by the time I got to this, it looks like all the good mix points have been made.  I'll just say that I really liked the tune and the vocals.  The verb was a bit heavy on the vox, but sometimes that's an effect you may want... not sure here?

Agree with james and Jimmy on the compression issues and also on giving the lead guitar a little room to breath when it comes in.

Another fine job, Charlie!

Great song. Rally like it. But, yep, fatiguing. This is, as pointed out, due to mids... in this case lower mids. I also agree with it being cut a bit oddly on the bottom. The highs are there, but... it is the extreme highs... there seems to be a lack of sonic information between the very crystal highs and the low and mid highs. Sincerely Chuck, I would toss it clean and start fresh. Start with the bass, then the kick. I think this mix might frustrate the hell out you otherwise.

Oh, and while I like verb saturated vox, this one does not work and sounds like you are in a metal closet. Convolution reverb is IMO the way to go, but you will need to audition literally hundreds of impulse forms to find what actually works. It is sometimes an arduous process. Leave that for last.

Great song, and I like the overall balance of frequencies (didn't find it fatiguing or anything like that), but when I listened to it again, this time on headphones, I'm sensing something not quite right with the stereo image...I'm somewhat of a n00b at audio so I don't really know how to describe what's going on in technical terms, but it seems like something is going on in the high frequencies on the left side, as if they're pumping in and out a little, making the stereo image feel somewhat unbalanced. The closest comparison I can think of is in the first Ryko release of Zappa's "You Are What You Is" CD, which had problems with the mastering. On Wikipedia it says the problem was caused by "an overuse of digital techniques like compression and reverb." It's not as pronounced as on the Zappa CD (which seriously caused my eyes to water when I listened to it on cans).

Again I really have no idea what I'm talking about, and maybe someone more knowledgeable than me could chime in hear by giving it a listen on cans, because perhaps I'm just too tired or something  but my left ear did feel a little left out, is about as technical as I can put it....

Otherwise a great song, really enjoyed this.

Charlie, I like this song and some to the engineering that went into this.  I like the verb on the vox, but I would like to hear it a db or two louder.  Or, leave the verb off and crank the vocal up several db's.  Anyway, take a break and come back to it refreshed.  This has great potential.

I could go either way on the verb.  It's a really good song and the lyrics are very good.  I can't speak to the mix because something is bothering me and I can't put my finger on it.  It could be the verb making it sound a bit back from the front.  I don't know, mixing and critiquing mixes is not my forte.  It is overall really good Charlie.

Hey, Charlie,

Wow, this is truly a monster rocker with great lyrics, dynamite vocals and killer guitar work!

I love the thick tone on the rhythm guitars, excellent playing on the tasty solo, and the vocals are really outstanding.  The mix sounds nice and punchy, and really well textured, too.

Excellent work, Charlie, and now I get to listen to "Jack It Up" again as a bonus!

Great stuff, buddy, keep 'em coming!
Bob
