Hmm. This is a timely thread.

I have not posted much anywhere in the last week because I had a very minor motorcycle accident last Saturday.

I slipped on the loose dirt in the road and went down. I was not going particularly fast so I was not worried about it at the time. however as luck would have it (or the lack thereof) I hit a rather large rock on the side of the road when I went down and it broke my collar bone.

I was wearing my helmet but in this case that did not do me any good. Anyway I got up and put my shoulder back in place (man that hurt) then called out to my wife to help me push the bike into the yard.

Anyway she was scolding me not to do anything but I shrugged her off and just got cleaned up. I had her drive me to the local ER for an x-ray and confirmed my suspicion.

I've had a figure 8 brace on for several days now and it really helps the healing. I can actually play a little guitar again if I'm careful not to get overly excited about it.

Anyway the point is that when we are young our bones are much more flexible. Now that I qualify for a AARP card not so much.

Hang in there Rain I'm sure that the therapy will help.

Wow Tom, putting back a broken collar bone into place is a great feat. I probably wouldn't have attempted that.......the most I've done is put back a few dislocated fingers, so kudo's to you.

The younger generation could take some notes on toughness like this.
Well done!!

I trust my therapist - Cirque hires only the best of the best. And I believe that physiotherapy is a way better first option than having needles stuck in my neck. She's confident that we may not even require as many session as the doctor prescribed.

We're working on isolating problem spots - I have some issues with my shoulder which may not be related to my neck at all, and we're identifying what's what. A shot in the neck would have done nothing for that.

Had a first session Wednesday and I have another one this morning.

No danger = No fun... No danger = No freedom. IMO.
I'll take my chances and the responsibility if I get hurt. (if I fall out of the chair or something). I grew up crawling all around the car or sitting on the center armrest in the front seat with the steel dashboard right in front of me.
I am for liberty, for allowing people to do stupid stuff... dangerous stuff. Life was much better back when you could order a Black Caiman from Thompson Wild Animal Farm! When I was a kid I got knots on my head you could hang a hat on... but I wouldn't change a thing and if I bike.. I do not wear a helmet. I do wear a seatbely but it is because I choose to, not because I have to.
I bet there is at least one other person here who remembers the advertisement in comic books for the BB Machine Gun. They pictured it mounted on bicycle handlebars.. THAT'S what I'm talkin' 'bout!!
Legalize everything! No one should have to get a license from the government to do anything. Anyone should be able to be an attorney if they want to, if they learn, get hired by a client... who cares? Buyer beware. Do what you want as long as it does not infringe on my freedom but take responsibility if you make a bad choice.
Why do you have to get a marriage license? Why does a doctor need a license? A bad doctor wont last long.
We have allowed ourselves to become wards of the state by default. The ball started downhill and no one stopped it, now it consumes everything. They have not run out of things to regulate but the list is getting shorter every day.
I am a bit old fashioned... I don't poke them in the eye but I pretty much do what I want. If I get in trouble, well... it's my trouble.
I saw a sign on a barbershop door yesterday. It said "muddy boots and firearms welcome". Make's sense to me.

Don't get me started.

BTW, later in life I developed upper thoracic spine pain. I went to the doctor today. We gave up on the shots years ago. Steroids have a FAST drop off and if you have ANY little bit of eczema, that drop off will make it bloom for about three weeks. I never had a problem with it until I took those shots, then it was like having roaming poison ivy for three weeks. Horrible. That's why they usually give steroids in countdown packs. Medications work best for me. I think I developed problems by spending too much time looking at a computer monitor (through bifocals), that and getting rear ended by a local transport van... it didn't hurt at the time so I don't really know. I suspect craning my neck looking at the computer for hours and hours. Oh well, like I said. I take the chance, I deal with the consequence... even if I didn't know. It's just life and we just live it. Have fun!

I think there's a lot of things in play here.... and one of them is the "lottery mentality".... I mean, come on, it's easier to sue someone else for your own stupidity than it is to accept responsibility for yourself.  The big start to this was the lady who spilled hot coffee on herself then sued Micky Dee's because they didn't tell her the coffee was hot.  She won the lawsuit. In another time, she would have been laughed at for the dolt she was. "Couldn't hold it dearie?" Bwahahahahahahaha.....

So now, just act like you're offended because of something that 10 years ago you would have been laughed at for even mentioning and if you get the right lawyer and jury, you can retire to a tropical island on the winnings. Maybe they'll even name a new law after you so others won't suffer that same indignity.

Do you remember the guy who sued the lawn mower manufacturer because he hurt himself trying to use a push mower as a hedge trimmer... and won. Now, there are warning stickers on mowers and so many safety features that are all interconnected that... well, I have a Cub that has been sitting in the yard for several years because I got tired of getting some safety feature fixed every year. The mechanic told me he could show me how to disconnect them in less than 5 minutes but it was a federal crime for him to do so.
One day.... one day... they are going to push us too far, and there will be NOTHING we can do about it when they do. In fact I think maybe they already have and we don't even know it. We no longer even know what freedom is.
...and why does every one keep using the word spic?

Before reading the thread I thought it would be regarding Winter weather. I'd never seen so much paranoia over snow storms.  People have endured these things before.  People don't get sick in frigid weather.

I stopped buying anything antibacterial because I grew up in a generation when this didn't exist and there is potential for ab stuff to me more harmful to you.

When I was a kid I never met another kid allergic to peanuts.

I've talked to teachers who improved their health by limiting the amount of hand sanitizer used in the class. This whole germaphobia culture is not getting any healthier.

About allergies and such:
It sounds like a  (one) very logical explanation to me that various kinds of allergies have increased also because of vaccinations. We're vaccinated against everything, so our immune defense system has to start looking for other enemies, because it hasn't been programmed to be idle. I'm for vaccinations, anyway.

My mother, a kindergarten teacher, used to say that a child has the right to break his bones and eat dirt and bugs.
That's the natural way of developing  normal instincts  of self protection and immunological strength.
Of course, it's easy to say in a country where there are practically no life threatening kind of bugs, no cholera etc. :o) and broken bones are taken care of .
