That Gibson LP White should be fine as a studio guitar, decent range of sounds. I would've settled for black, always my preferred choice of color.
Trust me, my entire life is an ode to black, but I've seen that one in black before - I came this close to ordering, but it just did not cut it. Maybe with a bit of TLC, new EMG-type of pick up covers (matte black), black screws and all it would have been better. Black on black.
But with the chrome hardware AND no binding to put things in perspective, it didn't work for me. It looked cheap-ish to me.
This one is a "blemished" one (I'm crossing fingers because you never know, but I have over a month to return it if I'm not happy w/ it). Since I don't want min-etune and all that junk Gibson put on their guitar, I don't have as many options.
It has 490R and 498T split coil humbuckers - my SG has a pair of 490 which I'm quite familiar with now, so I'm anxious to see the differences, particularly the difference the guitar makes. I'm expecting the LP to give those pick ups what I sometimes find lacking in the SG. OTOH, I don't think it can ever cut through a mix like the SG does.
