  • Confused Again....(EQ and Izotope)

I was watching the video on Ozone 6, and got confused. He is talking about mastering and he mentions de-essing and dynamic eq.  I have Nectar 2 and it has eq and a de-esser as well. I am guessing these overlap?  A Nectar preset gets set up when John does the take. After he leaves I go in and tweak the Nectar preset to "clean it up".

So, I  guess Nectar 2 is for mixing and Ozone is for mastering, and some tools overlap. If I am wrong, please let me know.......

That would be a pretty reasonable synopsis...but it't not
to say that still can't use Ozone at the Track level if you feel
the need...while these things are considered "norms" remember...

There is NO spoon!

Many effects do overlap, so be mindful of "doubling up" on things unnecessarily. If a mix is done well, the mastering should not require anything drastic.

And we're not even talking Alloy2 yet. If Ozone can be used on mixing, why still do Alloy?

Alloy 2 includes a lot of the same features as Ozone, but is designed more for track usage (lighter weight, and missing mastering goodies). Ozone Advanced allows for the suite to be separated so it is a lighter CPU hit, but you also pay for this.

Ozone would certainly not be my first choice for de-essing. Nor second or third-choice. But it would definitely be capable of handling the task in a pinch.

Nectar is primarily a vocal processing toolkit. When you look at it that way you can see the need for de essing, taking out the sinilance in vocal tracks.

When you look at mastering a project there can also be a need for de essing due to the build up of high frequency material during the summing of all the tracks. Now you need a mastering de-esser. Step in Ozone 6.1.
