Good Afternoon Everyone.

Here is a labour of love (and hate), that i have been struggling with for the last few months.

*Updated To Include A More Somber Ending, and now mixed by jamesyoyo*

Yoyo Mix

I came across this video on the discovery channel and really liked it, so I set out to compose some music to it, but it was a lot harder than i first envisioned.

I would really love to hear any comments or suggestions on how to improve this as i want to try and get it right.

Thanks
Mark.

Mark - you are one talented guy - I felt like I was at the movies - fantastic.

Awesome and epic.  The music was dynamic and inspiring.  It left me wanting more.

Ah yes, the ELE (Extinction Level Event...) We are the only species to have lived on this planet with the means to prevent its own extinction. However, we've de-funded our space program and pee money away on social programs. It's not a question of if a large body will impact the earth, it's a question of when it will happen, but sadly, it will happen.

Nice music for the end of the world :-)

Wow - this is great (listen 4x so far). I think you did a terrific job - I can only imagine how much effort went into this. There are DNA traces of Ennio Morricone and Akira Ifukube  in there somewhere (two of my fav composers) . As far as improving it - I am not qualified to say much. Intro sets the mood really well and the sudden lull at 0:50 works really well. I do love the way your track softens up as we see the earth from afar (at 1:54) and the cone of light rising up into the atmosphere - that was a perfect match of visual and music.  It’s just a super job all around. There are several little themes in there that all  stand up well - a fitting track that I would enjoy had I been watching on tv.

Hey Mark, I've had days like that.   Rather interesting serene piece for total anhilation, makes it very abstract.  Nice changes in the arrangement, very pretty piece.  That fact that you didn't give in to the temptation to use a more minor key for darkness is cool.

Mark, a few years ago, you posted a song that I was a little bit dismissive of. I think I said the work was done by the library. I have always regretted that. I did not understand the complexities and nuance of what you had achieved at the time, but I do now. I think this is a remarkable composition on many levels. Outstanding work.

Quite a project, Mark.  The music and video had a trance like effect.  I really enjoyed it.  Big, nice sound!

I can only comment on how I reacted to it, and I don't believe that I have any special knowledge or skill.  My first reaction was that it was too light and airy between 2:00 and 3:00.  It sounded better and was more fitting on subsequent listens, but on the first pass I was thinking that it wasn't minor enough.

I do think that it could be just a bit more minor and dramatic between 4:00 and 4:15.  Around here it seemed to me to have a sound of success and prevailing instead of 'the end of everything.'

Not criticizing the music here, just trying to explain how I reacted to it emotionally.
