Here in Tampa and with the Cuban history that can be found in Ybor City it is not hard to find Cuban music.  This would fit right in with some of the best.   The percussion is of the type that would be central to it.  Great mix, vocals, and performance.  Did you do the lyrics?  If so, you did a wonderful job.
Lovely song indeed!

Hi Freddy - thank you very much for your such wonderful feedback.  I was hoping that someone that new this kind of music from a local scene would comment and you did!  :)

I did write the lyrics and was trying to keep to the feel and style that I gleaned from Buena Vista Social Club music.  The problem now is I have no idea how to followup with another song!  I hope I can!  Many thanks again.

Very atmospheric. I really like the guiro. It sounds like it is  in a 'real space'. The guitar work is nice and laid back. I'd perhaps suggest simplifying the mix a littl at about 1'50", and where there are two acoustic guitars playing but this is just a personal preference, and I'm only listening on cheap headphones at the moment. I like sparse piano. Good vocals.

Please feel free to post a link to the song on my little FB music promo page www.fb.com/glasscastlemusic if you like.

Hi itsadequate - thanks for listening and for your nice comments.  I love that fact you pointed out the guiro!  I don't think I've used that in a song for over 30 years to be honest.  I played it and then quantized the audio and loved the sound.  It's a nice old instrument I dug out of my aging leather percussion case.  I even found the original stick for it.  It's funny what we can get exited about.

Please give this a listen on a good system and let me know what you think.  I still think it might be a little  heavy in the 40-60 hz range but I have not heard any feedback on that yet.

I will check out your FB music promo page and thank you so much for the invite!

This is really beautiful Jimmy. You've got a lot going on in the mix, but it's all perfectly spaced and treated. Love your use of percussion, very atmospheric. Piano is gorgeous too, and placed just right in the arrangement. Top drawer stuff.

HI James!  Much thanks! I like the term "atmospheric percussion" very much.  For the mix, I used the technique of after setting levels at a normal listening volume and checking in cans, I then listen through speakers at a very low volume level to see if I can still hear each instrument.  When I can, I crank it up to check for lows/highs, conflicts, etc.  I have learned that the low volume review really helps me to mix so that everything will be heard.

Thanks again.

Hey Jimmy
The final mix really came out nice.  I just love your acoustic performance and the space/air of the mix.  Very catchy riffs and such a calming/relaxed piece.  I hope that makes sense.

Very nice mix - cool percusion textures.  Vocals are deep and very good.  The whole mix gels nicely.  Really like the percussion and drums.
