Hi Mark , hey I was listening to this sample you posted . I forgot to ask you after you said you compressed the file before you mixed it .
Was it my drum track that was compressed and did you add more reverb to the drum track ?
I should had said something earlier , it sort sounds like theres too much reverb added to the drum track .

Maybe its my ears right now after just waking up from a three hour afternoon nap .

No - I didn't add any reverb to this James - just compressed very slightly.

Hi Mark , still sounds good I thought maybe you added some reverb in there on the drum track .
I guess when you compress it gives everything more of that Hall effect sound .

Thanks for the heads up - James

Well, James, if this is what you can do with the limited gear you have, then just imagine what you will accomplish once you get it sorted. This was great to listen to. My first thought was "Right on". There are a few places which, I think with time you will also see, needed a bit more fill. The sound and beat suddenly dumped. I did hear compression pumping on the kit which sounded like it came from the source. You might try relaxing some settings a bit and see how that sounds in future projects. Cool stuff man.

Thanks Shad , when I purchased that $499.00 electric kit I looked at the kick pedal
wondering is that pedal wold even work well enough for me .
The first three days working with it I was thinking no this has to go , I need to
           replace it ASP !
I can work with it but its not easy with no tension adjustment in this kick pedal .
Its almost impossible to get the same beats out of this kick pedal as you can
with a good standard kick pedal so it is what it and and its all I have to work
with for the next two months .
I plan on in June buying a replacement for around another $300.00 , new Kick pad
and the purchase of a decent DW kick pedal within my price range .

My fills are not what they used to me back with I was playing on a good set of
drums but with steady weekly practice I should be back to where I was in six
          months or so .
You can't expect to play like you did after stopping totally for over 13 years ,
it takes time to get back into drumming like I was before . I'm also not as
young and as healthy as I was back then either , this recent heart atack believe
or not took a big hit on my energy level when playing .
I can ony play like this for 30 minutes at at time and then I start wearing down
to the point where I need to stop playing and rest .
Back when I was playing full time my body weight was 180 lbs , I'm now at
230 lbs . I need to start losing weight too if I plan on playing full time again .

Anyway thanks , Mark did a great job creating this song and I thank him for
letting me add drums to his song it was fun for me .

I agree that more fills are n order. James seemed to add rests where fills could go. Some of the rests are good and effective. I could be all wrong though. I'll go oil my kick pedal and shut up.

Thanks Scotty for the drum lesson , maybe my heart skipped a beat or two ! LOL
I agree my fills are not what they used to be back in 1998 , man seems like a
long time ago doesn't it but I'm sure over time this year I will fill in the missing
blanks and start playing as good as I did way back then .

If you like my drumming so much just wait till you here me play my new guitar ,
now thats going to be COOL !

           Thanks Again Buddy  - James

keep at it james, you have all the tools to be a great drummer, when i say tools i dont mean the drum kit either,i mean talent.skill.the will.

my constructive critisism would be to try using a click track when practicing and when recording, and turn up the volume loud on it.
im not sure you used a click track when doing this,am i right?
if you didnt then im impressed,i couldnt have done this without a click track.
velocity is everything james.remember this ryme;
"hitting cymbals louder than kicks, pounds right through a mix"
i understand your kit might not be the best but dont use that as a crutch.you have good skillz as as a drummer i can hear it.just dont under estimate yourself and dont make exscuses, never do a song and say to yourself "well the kit stinks so,its good enough"
strive for perfection and you will achieve it.

all in all this came out good,a little tweaking and it would have been mind blowing.
like i said, reach for the stars and expect greatness, settle for no less.

good job.
