I'm weighing the pros and cons for my son. This is actually music related because if I have him go for it, it means the end of jazz band at school for him. He loves drumming for the band and will certainly contue outside of school. I'm just gathering info and talking to everyone near and far who may have experience.

Sorry, some of us are of the age where "I.B." only stands for "Irritable Bowel" and is usually followed by the word "Syndrome."

(In other words, what the heck is the "I.B. program?")

It would be well worth it for your son if he has the inclination to study hard. There are plenty of IB students who also pile on music as an extra subject. He might have to work hard but he'll pick up a great study work ethic that will serve him well in college and life.

Thank you for chiming in.  The more i research on this, the more I like the idea.  i do have to get him a drum kit.  The school has been lending him one.

I'm a parent and I have never heard of an "I.B. Programme"

Am I a bad parent?

Are we going to be given a hint as to what an I.B. Programme is?

What good are they teaching the children when they can't even spell "program" correctly?

Hey now, technically English belonged to the English first, even if they are doing it wrong ;)

My wife is a teacher and my 2 daughters were A/B Honor roll students so we have heard about this program.

If I understand it correctly, it's a standardized but advanced curriculum that ensures the proper courses to get into colleges both in this country as well as internationally....hence the name....

A number of the courses in this program are college level and will count as fully credited with colleges who are also part of this program. It lets high school kids get some of the classes the colleges require for a degree program completed in high school.

We opted NOT to have our girls go into this program due to the way it was done here in this county. Only one school in the system had the classes and it was across the country, and the workload was seriously heavy. Lots of homework.... more so than the normal heavy school work load. My wife did most of the research into the pro's and con's of having our girls in this program.  For their future plans, it didn't make much sense.

So, they finished their high school days in the normal classes and went on to college regardless...and with scholarships.
