Cheers Mesh, installing now

I must admit, I took a peek upstairs after reading your info, and as usual, someone's posted a new thread pointing to the Cambridge announcement sticky at the top of that forum.

So, one has to wonder, what is the point of all those stickies if people believe it's necessary to start a new thread to inform users of the update

Did they post an update thread to show that they've made an update to the notice of the update?

Because many people ignore/scroll past the stickies. I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't mentioned in a thread I was in and if I hadn't been in that thread the thread posted likely would have been the first I heard of it.

This is a good release. Let's be happy.

Edit: and the stickies are there because. well it's an official announcement that needs to stick around until the next release.

That's exactly my point Beep.

The stickies are just a massive waste of space and time. Nobody reads them.

Don't you get the email notifications? I got mine about 10 minutes after I read Mesh's OP.

Well, that's subjective of course. There is absolutely nothing that excites me in there. And it broke my Control Bar.

So.... meh.

Why don't they listen to the numerous requests and have a 'collapse' option for stickies I wonder.

Thinking about it, if the stickies were hidden/collapsed at the top of each forum by default, I'm guessing that more people would actually read them. Instead of just scrolling down and ignoring them, you'd be a lot more likely to expand them every now and again to check for anything 'important'. Or maybe it might be possible to have the option to automatically hide/collapse any sticky once you'd opened that thread.

And incidentally, my comments were not specifically directed at the OP in the particular thread I mentioned. Rather it was more a general observation on the (tiresome) compulsion some people feel in having to duplicate official sticky announcements in the same forum as that sticky is posted.

That is a memorial sticky, which is an honorable thing to have.
