Orange comes from the old word fanjÄranja
Which translates as fanj - peer and Äranja - pill.
An orange was originally called peer pill.
Said quickly this becomes purple and people called them purples.
Now the orange colour was named after the fruit but of course this was originally called peer pill as in purple. Purple was already a colour.
So orange, as a colour, did not exist until the carrot was discovered and a new colour - carrot - was added.
Prince Orange banned words with double R in them so people ate a Caot. So he re-named carrot the colour as purple after the fruit but a courtier pointed out that purple the colour did already exist. He suggested randomly changing all the letters. This he did and he got ganeor. Red and yellow and pink and green. Purple and ganeor and blue. Someone suggested pronouncing ganeor as orange and this would make using the word in poetry and songs rather difficult. So it was Symbol Orange, the heir formerly known as Prince Orange, who gave us the colour orange and the fruit, peer pill, pronounced purple, had its name changed to orange after he died.
