I need to try this one... Even though it's not that classic Les Paul

Truth is, if it had the classic configuration and no min-etune, this thing would be very high on my list.

By the way, if I wasn't that useless with tools, I'd have my dream LP for maybe $1500. But I just hate to send Gibson money for a new guitar only to remove all the crap and re-create what they should be selling.

If you get that model it won't really be a Les Paul. If you need the weight reduction go with a chambered body. At that price point you should have tons of options. And don't hate me, but Tokai Japan makes some amazing guitars to old school standards. They're tough to find in Canada and we end up with licensed stuff from Korea.

My favorite "new" option right now - in theory. I still need to try one of these.

I'd prefer a 50's neck, but, all in all - in theory - this is as close as it gets in that price range.

It's a pity you can't get one of these anymore: http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/guitars-basses/el-guitars/hollow_body_series/aes500/ I paid a thousand in 2000...still going strong, apart from I've got to have the switcher rewired.  It's a beast, very heavy great for sustain.  Two humbuckers.  I thought I'd replace the humbuckers in it once with Gibson's, the tech guy said the ones inside the guitar were as good.  The only thing I changed on the guitar was the fret wire.

That's really close to what my '76 looked like!  Ah, memories...

Still feel a little guilty about owning it actually, even after all this time. The guy I bought it from was desperate for cash and it was an absolute bargain. A year later he offered me way more than I paid him for it, but I said no. It just 'fits' me, that's the best way I can describe it.

I've got a Studio Plus, but have always wanted to get back to a Standard.  I had one in the early 80's Vintage Sunburst that I wish I never sold.

As mentioned, the prices are starting to get out of reach on a new LP.  I saw the new thin model advertised and went to a local GC to try it out.  They had to get it down from up high and when they handed it to me, it had the auto tuner on the back of the neck.  I grimaced when I saw that.  How ugly.  Big turn off....I can tune my own guitar.  I've managed to find a way for the last 35 years.  The next thing I noticed was the width of the neck.  They grew.  It was uncomfortably large.  I handed it back without ever plugging it in.

I told the sales guy, if Gibson asks why they are not selling, tell him that as a musician of 35 years, I hate the changes made on one of the worlds most loved instruments.  If I buy something, it will be used.

This!  Is exactly what I would buy as well, Rain!  Must be my Pagey side.
