There seems to be a serious gamer contingent in the Cake programmer community. There is actually a page on this site dedicated to some cosmic online RPG that I'd never heard of until I stumbled across it by accident while searching for something else (sounded cool but the name is eluding me now).
Fact is us home audio nerds have to really thank the PC gamer community for keeping the ultra high spec desktop components available at reasonable prices. They seem to be the majority of folks dropping enough cash on high end MOBOs and other parts to keep the desktops alive. If it were up to the average Joe Schmoe we'd all be recording on our phones by now.
When I built my system all my research pretty much led me to gaming stuff and if you look at companies like ADK they also build gaming systems (and that's probably where most of their cash comes from).
This is quite accurate Beeps. When I built my DAW, my research was also done at gaming sites as well as here at Cake. My MOBO is actually a gaming board designed by a guy who apparently broke some world records in OCing his MOBO using liquid nitrogen (or something like that). I've been fortunate to build a very stable DAW/Gaming machine, but have been gaming a bit more than recording.
I'm also a reagular Steam user and generally only buy games there, but I've seen a lot of Cake products on sale there. If you're buying games on Steam, the best time is when they have their seasonal promo's (usually summer & Christmas holidays)......you can get some of the best games for around 75% off the regular price. Good to know people in here like to game as well......if anyone's upto playing TF2 (free shooter game with great game mechanics....), just add me to your friends list and we'll hook up: I'm
Meshodman (on Steam).
