So I couldn't wait for a price break on Komplete 10 and I bought it :). I'm breaking into all the inner workings right now. Posted an article about first impressions. I know many of you have owned Komplete for awhile now. I've had Kontakt for awhile now. Komplete expands on that in a big way.You can see the same technology behind most of it. Some of the things like "the finger" haven't been very practicle for me yet. I'm impressed with all that even the Basic Komplete 10 offers. Now I want Komplete Ultimate. Not that Komplete isn't enough . GAS? Yeah.

Of note, Kontour and Rounds are both in a group all by themselves. Kontour is a very nice sounding synth with control automation built intro three seperate channel feeds. This is wonderful for those big pads that change and morph...the controllers are ok. I'm not really looking at one yet but maybe later. Rounds is like a combination of different synths in one and once again is killer on any kind of a sound landscape. The three new pianos are all welcome additions . I especially like Maverick.I plinked a little on it the other day and recorded it.
Installation is still very long and drawn out even for the basic version.130gb is a lot of material!

If you don't have Komplete yet and want some insight you can of course go to the NI website and I provide some of my first impressions on it here.

For those of use that only have a few bits of komplete, eg, guitar rig, is it worth the massive investment for the komplete suite or better to pick and choose pieces?

If more than a couple of Komplete pieces interest you, it's a far better buy to get the package rather than choosing items à la carte.  Especially if you already have something like Kontakt or Reaktor and are eligible for the crossgrade -- you can see for sure about that by logging into the NI site and checking your pricing for K10.

Karyn,

I would answer this by saying that it depends on what you already have, and what you are looking to add. If you don't already have Kontakt, I'd say Komplete is definitely worth it as you get Kontakt, plus several good Kontakt libraries to get you started. But if all you use a synths like Massive, or already have the latest version of Kontakt, it would be a lot harder to justify, IMO, unless there are additional pieces you were planning to buy anyway.

Just to add, I have Komplete 8 (not Ultimate), and really don't plan to make the jump to 10.

Dan

I would say that even if you already own a couple of the elements, Komplete is still worth it. Especially if you go for Ultimate and get it on sale (which I did with 8, then upgraded to 9 Ultimate). I don't know what the total full retail price of everything would be but it's high. Even if you have say Massive and FM, there's still the full versions of Kontakt and Reaktor, which are HUGE programs (and don't forget that having the full Reaktor grants you access to the full Reaktor User library and thus 1000's of unique synths, effects, drum machines etc).

Even forgetting about the big standalone synths, there are synths which run in Reaktor like Skanner, Monark and Razor, all of which are awesome (not sure which come with Ultimate though). And the libraries are worth the price of Komplete in themselves. Not to mention the extra effects you get for Guitar Rig, and the vintage compressors and EQ's you get with Ultimate. I really don't know where I'd be without it. Like Waves bundles, you get a HUGE bang for your buck (especially if like me you got them on sale).

I'll upgrade to 10 when they have a blowout.

If you don't own Kontakt, then I'd say absolutely - for the "entry level" Komplete that is.  Whether or not you'd want to spend the really big bucks for Komplete Ultimate (or whatever it's called) is another matter.  I am perfectly happy with the entry level bundle (Komplete 8 in my case) and don't have the slightest urge to cough up a big wad of cash to get the high-end bundle.

Guitarhacker, get in on one the upgrade sales when they come. There's a large leap from 6 to current. It's over 20 more items just on the basic Komplete.
