Yes no streaming from the harddrive. Only installers on there. If they make a K11U on an SSD with all samples ready to stream I'd jump on it in a heartbeat.

why ? hdds fail. hot swapping external hdds fail even easier; not to mention the mere act of picking up and carrying a hdd unnecessarily introduces the element of dropping it. I know I have- once- with a considerable loss of irreplacable data. flash is more robust but does have its own issues.

I said, SSD, not HDD. I believe it's quite robust nowadays, not to mention it'd only be reading 99 percent of the time. It would save hours worth of installing, space in the computer, and is a lot easier to swap between computers. I currently have my Komplete collection on an external SSD, it's been very reliable and I can use the high speed with both my laptop and desktop with just the one disk. The currently included disk is basically just a backup, you only use it for installing. While it's not a bad idea to have a backup, I would prefer to choose whether or not I make one, instead of just having a dead weight in my closet that might have been very useful.

I installed K10U from the included hard drive.  took 2 hours and that was including downloading and installing all the service center updates.

Having the hard drive still takes 3-4 hours? Is this because it's usb 2.0 ? It sounds as if you imported from the outboard hdd to an internal one. I was under the impression you could stream from it. I would probably do the same thing unless that included hdd can stream a lot of tracks at once.

yup 3 to 4 hours,  not exactly certain- I expected it wouldve been much quicker going from k9U so I didnt check the time, but I surfed a bit on my other pc and then watched a full movie and still had a while to go before the install was ...errr, complete, you might say. we are looking at a pretty large data transfer- I dont think there is an option to run the software off the supplied hdd enclosure-  just pick your install path and go. I really dont see why the install time would be an issue unless one has only days left to live I suppose (a way to pass the time ? something to look forward to ?). Not to mention, why does no one seem to remember the prolonged install times in the good old floppy days ?

I hear you on the wait time . It is probably the largest program many will install at 400gb for Ultimate. I'm just impatient :).... Having another activity to do while waiting would certainly help. I think usb2.0/3.0 makes a big difference in time.

Perhaps there were not as many updates because this is a new product. When I got K9U the updates took longer than the original install. 2 hours seems fairly quick even just for the disk based part.

Well I had all of K9U installed.

I don't really know why it was so fast, at 2 hours.  When I installed K9U it took 4 + hours but that was on my old machine.

I went all the way and bought Ultimate and Kontrol S61. The more I use it the more I love it, and I'm not paid NI, but now it is fun again to sit in front of the keyboard. Yeah. It is too much to gasp at once, with all the synth and sounds. All the possibility with the keyboard. But it started something inside me. Now I can find the sounds I want.

Hope you have a lotta fun with it Jarsve! It must be good if a metal guitarist is into the keyboard now :)

It's rare that you actually need what's in the latest version.

I'm sorry, you've lost me there...    What does need have to do with anything?

That's exactly what I say to the goobers at Guitar Center. The ease of using the USB drive in Ultimate is way under rated. Check what you want to instal and go to bed. It is a wonderful thing. They should have that as an option for Komplete.

OK darnit....I just pulled the trigger on Ultimate...no point in only going partway up Everest :) It is a great deal for everything you get. I shouldn't have looked at the NI website that last time :) Tums should help a little with the GAS.
